Importing and Exporting .FBX from 3DS MaxFor import to 3DS Max make sure to:
- "Add and update animation" selected
- "Animation" check box checked
- "Automatic" Unit conversion check box checked
- Make a note of the unit conversion in the top section for later
File units vs system units
| | For export from 3DS Max make sure to:
- Export "selected only"
- "Embed media" check box unchecked
- Use the conversion from above
- FBX format must be set to binary
- I used version 2013

Hi celeste821, I may be misunderstanding your question and, if so, please ask it again.
Sims 4 Studio is a program that allows you to clone EA items so that their images and meshes can be edited or completely changed and then packaged up to use in Sims 4.
Blender, 3DS Max, and Maya are 3D editors that allow you to edit or make meshes. You will only need one if you want to learn to make meshes. Of the 3 Blender is free and works very well with Sims 4 Studio.
Paint.net, Photoshop, and GIMP are 2D editors that allow you to edit or make image resources. Again, you will only need one ig you want to learn to make recolors or new textures for your meshes. I use Paint.net because it is free and does pretty much everything you need to do to create images for Sims 4.
The easiest way to jump into making things for Sims 4 is by starting with recolors. I would recommend tutorial #3 followed by tutorial #1 from the list above.

There is a mini-tutorial going over the CAS interface but other than that information for creators on how to use Sims 4 Studio is in tutorials. If you have specific questions I can answer them but it's easiest to learn how to use Studio by just jumping in. It doesn't have anything like the number of features Blender has so this is easier than it may sound.

Excuse me Orangemittens, I've managed to edit meshes with blender, but when i try to edit the 2d textures with paint or gimp it says it can't read the file and refuses to open it. Do I need to convert it to another format before it can be opened? More accurately i just figured out that i can import normal images as textures but they don't fit the texture size/format, so i need to know how to make the original exported texture formats usable for gimp and paint editing.
*update I'm an idiot XD watched tutorial about needing plugin and clicked the link XD. New question now that i have the file on the computer how to i apply it to gimp i have no clue XD
*another update nevermind the how i downloaded the wrong file i'm now installing the older gimp so i can run the file XD workin on it
*help again I have the plugin installed and the dds file put in the bin folder but i still can't open dds files XD
*gave up on gimp dds looking at other programs found something called paint.net which i was told can edit dds programs easily, bout to find out
*yesh paint.net is the way to go i'd reccommend it to your future users even :D
*new problem the images from paint.net don't have ddxt compression whatever that is
*figured it out had to copy and paste in new image with same proportions and give it the dxt5 when the menu pops up with mipmaps :D I'm learning XD

yay! I've finished watching the tutorial! I knew it! feelings must not be trusted! Lol. It's a great well explained tutorial.
...but perhaps meshing isn't really for me cause I'm a total dummy with these 3d programs.
i only wish there was an "instant" way to make new mesh. Lol
