Hello,
I have been working on a table that I made a mesh and added it into another table so the rigging and slots all worked well for it, I would like to try and add a light effect the top of the table and I have already made a lamp version of the table to see if I can do it.
the question is can I add a light resource to the table so it glows like the lamp but you can put chairs and sit at it.
thank you for any help you can give Double42o

Hi doubled420! A light (or lights) can be added to any object - the Light resource is a foundational part of the .package format for objects. What I myself do when I am 'light shopping' (read: looking for 'just the right' already made light from a game light) is to make an empty room, then go through the various kinds of whatever light I am looking for at the moment (floor, wall table, etc.) (with the clock time set to night, of course) and take screenshots with maybe 5 - 6 different lights spaced apart at a time in the room to see how they are colored, spread, how bright, etc. for reference to choose which light to extract from a clone in Studio. Then, it is simply a matter of exporting the Light resource in Studio, and importing it into your own project... Something to keep in mind , especially if your are looking to clone a table light to use for your table's illumination, is that you will need to move the light itself in Warehouse in the 'Lights' button of the Light resource upwards by however much the difference between your table's top and the floor (easy way is to look at a slot's Z number. HOWEVER, when working with the Z direction of the light resource, you will see a trio of numbers that appear to be x, y & z coordinates, however they are in actuality x, Z & Y in order in that entry. Many of the mysteries within the Light resource remain hidden to me, but I am slowly picking them apart... A short'extra' note: after transferring your desired exported .binary light resource into your table, save the file, close it & re-open it, and look at the Light resource again in Warehouse, and check to see if there are any listings in the 'Occluders' button. You will want to remove any if there are to avoid strange shadows being cast by the imported light. There may not be any at all, though. Note that I have not at all touched on vertex coloring here... I hope this helps! Cheers!

doubled420, Not that I can recall. Generally, the only time(s) I receive errors when importing .binary files into Studio in Warehouse is when I am I have imported the wrong kind of resource (such as importing a rig into a slot resource...). If you are still having difficulties, then maybe you could upload your files and link them here for us to try them out.

hello minimonster so i have copy a resource and added it to my table I uploaded the file to the sim file share here . (not sure if this is going to work i have never tried to link a file on her) when i opened my file in game i could not get my mesh top to look like it was glowing but the room lights up. if you could take a look and tell me what i am doing wrong that would be a great help. the explanation you gave in the earlier post helped me get to this point. thank you

Hi doubled420. I am Happy that you got the light to import! Regarding the next step that you want to do with your table, there are two different approaches to doing it - have a separate LightMap image resource, which can be easily seen with the BG 'Signature Sign', or by following the excellent tutorial that orangemittens wrote " How to make a Sims 4 lamp that lights correctly". If you decide to follow orangemittens 's tutorial, it should be noted that Blender v2.70 has some problems with vertex painting, so I advise using a side install of 2.76 to achieve it. Best of Luck on your next step! Cheers!
