As part of a bigger project, I am trying to convert the window/fishtank-thing from TS3 Late Night. I am relatively new to all of this, but I'm having a lot of fun making new stuff for my game and I am learning a lot! I have been able to solve most of the problems I've encountered by searching the forums here as well as other sites. But I have been struggling with this for several days now, and I just can't seem to figure ut what I'm doing wrong. I made it using a regular fish tank, and I have edited it in the warehouse tab to make it placeable through walls. But the cutout doesn't work. I followed the wall cutout tutorial by Brujah. I'm guessing the problem is that the original fish tank didn't have a wallmask, and even though I added a DST Image Resource, the game doesn't recognise it? I also read through the threads with the sink cutout issues. I tried making this using other objects that have wallmasks and changing the tuning, like a window and that chef station that you place through walls, but those all had a ton of other issues that would take so much more time for me to figure out. There are of course other issues with this one as well, but this is the only one I am struggling with and I really hope there's an easy fix for this.

I hope it's OK that I bump this, as I'm still struggling with it :/

Hi paifjes. I had started to write out a response to you yesterday, but didn't post it for some reason. (?) Setting aside any of the issues with it being able to use a cutout, without the ability to scale the fish FX, one main thing that you need to take into consideration is that you need it to be a minimum of one entire tile 'thick' (deep, etc.). The fish as you may or may not know are only pre-made FX, one FX for each fish in each of 6 different positions (not including the fishbowl, single fish FX). I tried this very object a couple of years ago myself, as it is one of my Favorite things from S3. IIRC, as-is it is some ~2/3-tile deep, which will make it so that certain fish 'clip' and swim outside of the enclosure. Just something to consider before you get too much farther with it that I wanted you to be aware of. Cheers.

Hi minimonster! Thank you for the reply Yes, I know about this other issue. Like I said, there are several problems I haven't solved yet with this. I feel like I need to do one thing at a time. This cutout thing is the one I've been focusing on. Even if I set aside this project (or find some other creative way of solving the fish clipping/otherwise repurpose this item), I might still run into this cutout thing in the future. Besides, I've been struggling with this for nearly a week now. I sat for several hours the other day, until I had to stop because it was giving me a terrible head ache. So I really don't want to give up on this just yet So is there a way to fix the cutout? Or do I just have to admit defeat?

HI paifjes. There are times when persistence does pay off, even if the result isn't exactly what one would have hoped for. I am thinking that cloning a short-height window would be the best place to start, and ensuring that all of the necessary cuts are represented in the converted mesh. I cannot recall from when I was whacking at this object if there is also a diagonal mesh for the wall tank, if not, it would be simple enough to make one from the 'regular' one. As far as I can tell and have seen myself, the game's windows all follow a similar set of rules about their cuts, and it really isn't *too* difficult to modify a mesh to suit their needs. Outside Glass Outside Frame Inner Frame mesh Inside Glass Inside Frame Outside Shadow Inside Shadow Shadow LODs use inside/outside frames and inner lining meshes for LOD_0 (3 cuts), and a joined glass/frame for inside as well as outside for LOD_1 - both regular and diagonal (2 cuts). To 'get you feet wet' with the whole cutout thing, try making a 4-tile window from a 2-tile one, it is easier than one might think. Then, I would consider making the converted mesh conform to that 4-tile mesh, for ease-of-conversion... Just some ideas that I am tossing out there, IDK if you are already aware of any of it. I hope to have helped in some small way! Cheers.

Hi minimonster, and sorry for the late relpy. So basically, I'll just have to start from scratch? There is no way to add a cutout to an item that doesn't already have one? Because I think I managed to do this in a previous version of the tank (though it wasn't perfect, and I decided to start over again). Now I can't find the old file and I have no idea how I did it... Now I just have the cutout picture, and I can't seem to make the game recognise it... I guess making the tank from a window instead of a regular fish tank would have been the best way to do it anyway, and then add the tuning or something... Perhaps that's just what I'll have to do if I want do get this done. I really appreciate you taking the time to help me with this. I'm just a bit frustrated
