Hi All!
I searched around a bit and didn't quite find what I was looking for. Mainly what I saw was that it wasn't recommended, BUT i figured I would pose the question anyways cause I am curious as to why it is bad...
So I am making a counter set. I want to do various options for the handle of the counter while keep the counter base and countertop the same. The countertop has its own texture/mesh group from the base. I am essentially looking to do something like this but for the counter handles. For counters/cabinets, it can be painful doing all those color variations for the main counters, island, and cabinets. Then on top of that I would have to redo it for differnt handle variations.
It would be great if I could keep the base and countertop mesh groups the same with their own textures, and just swap out the handles and that texture for the different variations. Is there a way? I hope so lol.
Thanks!

Yes, if you just want to change handle texture - not the mesh for the handle. It is a tedious process, I would remap the counter in blender (or there is another way if you don't) and put the handle texture in the corner of the texture. Then just copy the texture and replace the corner with new handle texture, save, and repeat as often as you like. If you can't do blender, then make copy of counter texture and locate the handle texture - I usually replace with a weird color, so I know I got the right spots. Make the weird color transparent and save. Paste this image over an image of your handle covers that is same size and save. Just make up all the handle cover images and paste the counters on top.

Leniad thanks for the response. That was my backup plan - to put the handle UV in the corner. THen I was just going to bake the counter mesh separate from the handle mesh and overlay in photoshop. I have a script that can do it fairly fast. I was just hoping there was a way to set it up once in s4s so I could do it once and easily swap it out. I also do most of my LOD reduction on the handles since counters are mostly boxy and just replace the mesh group for the handles to make other LODs. But i guess I will just have to do it the way i have been doing it. :(
