hi, im making a dress from scratch and ive finished the model and everything, but im a bit concerned about the uv map. when i went to unwrap everything, the arm textures got sort of messed up in the process and i want to know how to fix them and put them back in the original place so as to not mess up the maxis texture. i can provide the blender file if needed

Hi. You should not combine the skirt with the top until it has proper uv_0, uv_1, weights, vertex paint. The top part already has this information and you will do nothing but mess it up. In 3d view select a few faces on the skirt, press Ctrl L to select the rest of it, press Ctrl I to invert the selection. Press Delete and choose Faces. After that unfold rig, find top and make it visible and selectable (cursor and eye icons). Select it, in 3d view press Shift D, click without moving the mouse to confirm. This will be your top, but do not combine it just yet. If you look closely at the top, you will see seams on the sides of the body. Select your skirt, Alt-RMB-click on edge loops that are closest to those seams on the body and mark them as such ( Shading/UVs tab - Mark seam). Do this on both sides and at the bottom if there's "a cap" that closes it. Now you can unwrap. Transfer uv_1 map, weights, vertex paint with 3FFF00. Only after that should you select duplicated top, Shift-select the skirt and join with Ctrl J. Make sure to smooth vertex colors with Paint - Smooth vertex colors.

You should transfer them from an item that is closest to yours in shape. Find a dress that is, clone it, export the blend, append it in the scene, if needed, combine all of its meshgroups into one, select your skirt, create a uv_1 map by clicking on + icon, add Data transfer modifier, choose combined dress as Source object, set it like this, apply

i realized i replied to the post wrong, but at first i wasnt able to find the modifier then realized i had the wrong version of blender. so i decided to use a regular body outfit as a template, instead of a top template, bc i figured using a top wasnt rly gonna yield the results i wanted. so i transferred the weights and uv's like you said, and everything fell in place seemingly. anyway, thank you so much for your help and im sorry for the mistake!
