Yes, this should work. If you create your object and then change the Tuning Name and TuningID to match those from an EA storage chest you should be able to store the same things in your new object.

Bear in mind though that this will make the game treat your object as any other storage chest. If the objects you want to add storage to already have their own interactions then they will all be gone when you make the change. This method is best for making decorative items work as storage.
