Hey guys, I'm very new to the Sims community and very new to modding, so it's no surprise I ran into some issues, I'm just surprised to see that this particular issue hasn't been reported anywhere else I could find. I created some custom upper arm kaiju tattoos for a Newt Geiszler sim in S4S, and they looked great in the preview! imgur.com/a/K9EMBlTSo, I go to load them into my saved game and onto my sim by enabling cheats and opening the CAS editor. imgur.com/a/Y2GyoMiFunny, they looked much more washed out in CAS, but hey, they're still usable as a placeholder while I work on something a bit better. So I go to confirm changes and resume my game and... he's completely pitch black. imgur.com/a/Bq6xHY1I tested out both tattoos at the same time as well as each individual tattoo, and they're both an issue. I also made an entirely new sim and tried applying one or both tattoos and they still caused the same issue. imgur.com/a/olwhYR5In addition, without uploading a thumbnail to the package the preview in CAS also shows sim skin as being pitch black. When I remove the tattoos, the issue goes away immediately. Not really sure what I did or how to fix it, but I think this is a pretty clear indicator my mod itself is broken, not the game or any of my individual characters. Any advice or help is appreciated, I'd love to get these up and running!

It could be that the thumb isn't updated or something else. We need the Package file to look into the issue.

Your textures are missing mipmaps. If you're importing them as DDS you need to save them in your 2D editor with the option to generate mipmaps checked. Or import them as PNG and S4S will convert them.

Follow tutorials from the forum since they either approved or written by developers of Studio. Regarding washed out color read my post here. You need to change composition method.
