This is my first mod for the game so I'm having trouble doing what I thought would be a simple texture change I took a base game rug and I uploaded my own textures via GIMP. Everything is kosher (.dds, resolution, etc) except that when it renders in game, the pattern will duplicate and overlay itself or look fuzzy. It looks really odd at certain camera angles and while zooming in/out. I followed this tutorial to make sure the rug wasn't mirroring: sims4studio.com/thread/4292/remap-mirrored-rug But the rugs still don't display correctly. I'm sure it's a simple fix, but what I am doing wrong TT File: Rug FileAnother angle:

I was able to fix my rug by saving the texture files as a png instead of dds. And then in S4S, importing the new png textures in. Duh, I said it was going to be an easy fix. However, I don't understand why png works and not dds for this. Every tutorial I have read and watched went into lengthy detail of HOW to set up dds upon save (and it seemed like the only correct way), but not WHY we should use dds. So if anyone would like to answer why .png is OK over .dds that would be great. From what I understand, dds is useful for floor tiles...but why not rugs.

A lot of the tutorials date from before s2studio did pngs.

Actually you can use png textures for most anything, just don‘t use png for specular and shadow maps, especially on CAS content to avoid black lines. Gotcha, thank you!! I'm happy it's all working now.

Intenally the game uses dds files. When you import a png file into studio it converts it to a dds for you. Most of the tutorials you will find may have been written before studio supported the ability to import pngs. You can't use pngs for bump/normal maps either as they require a specific channel setup with an alpha.
