Hi all, I'm trying to get some custom content bunk beds I downloaded to work (specifically these from pixeldreamworld: pixeldreamworld.tumblr.com/post/130922026950/dreamcatchersims4-alana-bed-set-fixed). I have other bunk bed frames from different creators and my understanding is that in order to make any bunk beds work you have to have a mattress without a footprint so the sims can route to the top bed. The set's mattresses are supposed to have zero footprint but alas the sims were giving me a routing error. It's an older set and I did see the creator fixed the mattresses so I tried downloading the newer version but had the same problem (newer version: pixeldreamworld.tumblr.com/post/156093289040/updated-fixed-matresses-for-bunk-beds-re). I then found a tutorial on removing footprints by OrangeMittens and followed it exactly, but the game still gave me routing errors. I've tried everything I could think of (created a 3D object, created a selective clone, I zero'ed out the footprint area, I've checked the object polygons section to ensure there wasn't a different source footprint and have had no luck). Also, no matter how I renamed the package and removed the creator's original from my mods folder there was always the creator's original mesh in the game which I assume is from creating a selective clone? I'm not sure. I really would like to get that original mattress set to work as it has a bunch of colors and would be a one and done thing. Any advice on how to get this to work? Thank you!

Bunk beds used to work just by taking a mattress without a footprint and lifting it in game to place it in the top bunk. A few patches ago that broke, so the way to do it now is to lift the mattress in blender instead of the game. The mattresses don't actually have to not have a footprint. I'd rather just give them the footprint of a rug so they can still intersect with objects without giving you a routing error AND save with room so when you move/save a room they go along with it. So basically, a) the bunk frame is going to have to either not have a footprint or have a rug footprint. b) you'll need 2 separate packages for the mattress. One for the top bunk, and one for the bottom. Start with the one for the bottom and remove the footprint or change it to a rug footprint and then copy that package into your sims 4 studio mods folder (Documents\Sims 4 Studio\Mods). Then open up studio, select 'selective clone' and change the top filter to 'custom.' You'll see the matress there. Select it and save it to your regular mods folder. Once it's open, export the mesh. To know how high to lift it, open up the package of the bunk frame and export that mesh. Then open up the mesh of the mattress you exported, make sure you are in 'object' mode and go to file -> append and look for the file of the bunk frame you exported earlier. Once you find it, click on it and select the 'object' folder and select 'studio_mesh_1" (or 'studio_mesh_0" if you don't have the other one.. there might even be mesh 2, 3 or so on. There's usually just 2. The 0 is the shadow and 1 the actual object. You're just looking for the one that has the acutal mesh for the bunk frame) and then it'll load that mesh into blender with the mattress. Select the mesh of the mattress by clicking on the name of it on the left right bar, hit 'a' and then 'g' and then use the keyboard up arrow to lift the mattress mesh so that it is at the correct height to fit on the top bunk. Once you do that, right click on the mesh name of the bunk frame in the side bar and select 'delete' Then save the blender file and import it into your mattress package. You should see that the mattress lifts up. Import the mattress mesh for all the LODs. To fix any shadow issues, follow this tutorial: sims4studio.com/thread/3574/fix-type-sims-object-shadow. The types of shadows you might want to fix are the last 2 types listed there. Once you do that, then you should be able to place both bottom and top mattress on the bunk beds and be able to use them both without routing errors. PLEASE let me know if you run into any issues doing this! I love bunk beds and have done this to my own cc bunk frames and mattress. Depending on how much experience you've had in blender, this might seem like a lot but these are great skills to have and once you're good at it you can fix and make so much stuff!!!!
