Hi!
So I was wondering what file type I should export items if say I want to take X blender object from File 1 and import it into File 2.
I have tried using .obj files, but when they are imported I get some weird error message in blender saying it can't save because its missing X.png and y.png.
I know it must able to be done, but which do I export the mesh from File 1 to File 2.
Thanks,

You are doing it the way I do. The missing .png files just need to be replace with any old image. Go to UV image editor, choose the little up arrow next to NEW on the option bar, select the image that is empty, now click the image button, choose replace and navigate to an image. After all the missing images are replaced, blender will save things properly.

You can make the .pngs export with the object file if you assign them as material slot in the right hand side, textures. Click add, new, then go to edit mode and click assign. Then save, I always exit then open the file new and then export as an .obj file. This does work most times but you will find that some are stubborn. You can always just go to the bottom and open the image and re import them after you have imported the obj file if it doesn't work.
