I'm working on making my first object entirely from scratch, and I've run into a couple of issues. MeshTextureI initially created and added a texture image based on my UV layout, which worked well. I then decided to tweak my UV layout, and redid my texture accordingly. Now every time I try to add the new texture, Blender crashes. I've also been trying to bake shadows from my mesh, but no matter how long I leave it the process just sits at 0%. I've been following the instructions in this thread, but maybe I've missed something. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Looks like the texture/material is already added, but the UVmap is stuck on a different texture. Have you tried to select the mesh and add the map in the UV section? It did add to the mesh when I did, without any crashing. Keep in mind I used a downloaded texture, so if you're trying to add the internal texture that could be what's causing the crash.
Mark/highlight all faces, in the UV screen, click "Image", "Open Image", and find the image. Double-click the image, and it should now show in both the mesh view and UV-map view.

I'm still having the same issue. Let me double check that I'm following your directions correctly... At which point I open the image, and all I get is the spinning rainbow wheel and a non-responsive program

Try putting your image file somewhere else (the png), and load it up from there. I think that's why it worked for me. Blender is already using the image file you've got saved, so for whatever reason it doesn't want to use it again.
I had an issue earlier where Blender refused to put the same PSD on two different groups (I've never had that problem in other meshing programs before, thought it was weird) - still no idea why it happened, but I saved an extra PNG I applied to the second group, and suddenly there were no complaints. I did not get the spinning wheel, though - it just did nothing.
I've always had some issues with Blender and textures/materials - they always keep doing weird things. I honestly prefer using other programs for previews (I already have Milkshape for TS2 purposes and it's got very simple material tools, so if I have some issues previewing items I'll just stick them in there, and it works like a charm).

So weird. It must be something crazy on my end. I even re-downloaded the files onto a different computer, so I was using completely new version of both files, and it still crashes out. Can I ask what version of Blender you're working in?

I'm using 2.76 See if the texture shows up here: simfileshare.net/download/1846262/Blender has this weird thing where it seems to bake textures into the file whenever you add anything to it, so maybe something's going wrong in that process. Other programs will instead reference files from where you've saved them on your computer (Blender can do this too, but only if you tell it to, and only if it wants to play nice, which isn't always - which is why I much prefer other programs when it comes to testing out materials/textures).

It shows up just fine on that version of the file. Thanks!
I've only just started learning Blender, so it's hard sometimes to know what I don't know, if that makes sense. Now to see if I can actually get it to do the other things I need lol

Next time, maybe try to save a second png with a new name to make it different from the original. That way, Blender sees there are two files, and understands it's supposed to see them as two files. That could work (or not. Blender is sometimes really weird...)
