Hi, I'm very new to this, but I've started learning blender and I'm really enjoying it. I'd love to be able to create cc clothing, but it seems like almost all of the tutorials out there use marvelous designer, which is really, really expensive. Is marvelous designer really necessary? Would I be able to create alpha clothing in blender, or is that too difficult for an amatur?

Hi. You do not need MD, but you most certainly need decent understanding of Blender. New versions of Blender (2.8-9) have many amazing tools for this, so I suggest watching an introductory course on Blender first, then some good course on Cloth modifier.
You can model in 2.9 and use 2.76 as a bridge.

It's also possible to make meshes from scratch without using cloth modifiers, or stitch together meshes from ingame into new creations. There's lots of options.
Cloth modifiers and MD are often reliant on high-poly meshes to look good, which eventually can be a resource hog on a computer if you have enough of these clothes in your game.

They can be retopologized and folds/wrinkles baked into texture. If you're happy with any type of clothing, just frankenmesh and edit maxis meshes. If you want an alternitive to MD, cloth modifier and sculpting can be that.

Thank you both for your help! I have a lot to learn in blender, but it's good to know that making clothes is possible without MD.
