I made a thing! And it works! I couldn't find a working link to a clothing pile dresser, so I followed a tutorial for object tuning mods and made a clothing pile that works as a dresser. (I used the "no route" dresser tuning, which seems to have been a good choice, the Sim goes over to it but doesn't care at what height I've placed it.) It's awesome! I even found a tutorial to make it fit on shelves better, so that's my next step.
...only, I'd really like to make it so that it only changes the tuning and slot footprint of the original EA object -- no separate catalog entry, no copies of the EA textures in my files, no need to have one object for dresser functions and another for recolors, etc. And I'm not sure I know the right words to use as search keywords to find useful material on that, because I'm not finding much, except one recommendation to make a pure XML tuning mod with the XML Extractor instead of messing around with the object in S4S.
Can anyone point me at some directions?

I'm not really understanding what you mean? You can delete anything in the file you don't alter, and if you want to override the EA object just use the Override option on the main menu.

Ooh, so I can literally just change the tuning and the footprint and delete everything else in the Warehouse area that isn't one of the bits I made changes to? I wondered if that might be the case, but while my search term fu is usually excellent, in this case it was so bad that almost nothing I found was relevant to what I wanted to do, and thus unsurprisingly not a single bit of it said I could do that.

Yes, just delete the stuff you didn't alter from the package, it's not required for it to function.

If I understand right then what you want to do is use the Override option to clone the clothes pile you want to act as a dresser. Change the tuning in the Object Definition resource to the dresser tuning. Do this for every Object Definition in the package or it will only work with one swatch and not the others. You can then delete everything in the package so that just the Object Definition resources are left. Save this package and when it is in your mods folder you should find that the existing clothes pile you cloned now works as a dresser and there isn't a new entry in the catalogue.
Oh! I forgot about the footprint edits but the same applies. Leave them in the file after you've made your edits to them. So you just have Object Catalogue and Footprint resources.

Yes, that's what I was planning to do. If I also have (or make) recolors of the original object, and they are set as extra swatches, will they also work as dressers a) if I don't touch the package, or b) if I go into those packages and delete the parts I overrode?

If you just make a recolour by selecting the clothes pile again in studio then it will behave like the regular unedited object.
If you copy your override package into Documents> Sims4Studio> Mods and then make a recolour package it should pick up the changes you made automatically.

Hi all, I am trying to set my season length to 91 days, but it won't work. It seemed to work first and the calendar showed the 91 days, but it's not working when playing out. The calendar keeps resetting the current season to day 1 whenever it reaches day 29... So you're stuck in an endless season and the calendar gets completely messed up. I hardly have any modding knowledge. Can anyone help? You need to create your own standalone thread instead of posting your question as a reply to a random old thread that has nothing to do with your question. (Also, I don't really understand why you have copied and pasted someone else's message about trying to change season length (that you had previously replied to and said you were having the same problem) and just changed a few details. Or do you actually have two accounts? I suppose it's no concern of mine once you create your own thread.)
