I made a recolor of one of the lightsabers from Journey to Batuu S4S 3.1.3.7 Wishes and photoshop, and it does show up and looks fine, sims can pick it up and put it into their inventory, and the option to install a kyber crystal does show up. But when the little pop-up window appears in which you choose a crystal to install, all alternatives are grayed out, meaning the recolor doesn't actually work as anything other than an odd decoration.
I'm kind of at my wits end with this, I cannot figure out what I'm doing wrong (and I have tried re-doing it from scratch as well, but with the same results). Does anyone have any helpful suggestions for me? I would really appreciate it.

This is weird...back when I was starting a mod that was using the tuning as a base until I was further in, it allowed me to add the kyber crystal without any issue. Now that I'm testing it again since you mentioned it, it's no longer working. Something must have changed without me noticing since the last patch, so I'll keep looking and let you know.

Of course after I post that I find it, lol. Alright so, I'm not sure when this changed or why my comparison system didn't catch it, but you're going to have to mod if you want the recolor to work. Clone one of the continuation actions, here is one you can look for and use as a base: lightsaber_CombineWith_PickedKyberCrystal ( Tutorial if you don't know how.) Once it's cloned scroll to the very bottom until you see <V t="object_definition_criteria"> <U n="object_definition_criteria"> <V n="identity_test" t="definition_id"> <U n="definition_id"> <T n="actual_object">239332</T> </U> </V> </U> </V> Where it says "<T n="actual_object">239332</T>" is where you will reference your new color/swatch. Go to the Warehouse of your recolor, look for the Object Definition and click on it. Look for Key > Type, Instance, Group. Copy the Instance from under the Key, go to Tools > Hash Generator and paste where it says Hexadecimal. The Decimal above it will change into a new number, go ahead and copy that, paste over the original number next to actual_object in your cloned interaction. Then add the Lightsaber_Combine_KyberCrystal_Picker to your .package but don't clone it. Copy/paste one of the listed affordances (the interactions) and it's structure. Paste on the next line. For example: <U> <T n="affordance">241977<!--SuperInteraction: lightsaber_CombineWith_PickedKyberCrystal_Protection_1--></T> </U> <U> <T n="affordance">241978<!--SuperInteraction: lightsaber_CombineWith_PickedKyberCrystal_Protection_2--></T> </U> Now you add a third one right below the first two. <U> <T n="affordance">241977<!--SuperInteraction: lightsaber_CombineWith_PickedKyberCrystal_Protection_1--></T> </U> <U> <T n="affordance">241978<!--SuperInteraction: lightsaber_CombineWith_PickedKyberCrystal_Protection_2--></T> </U> <U> <T n="affordance">241976<!--SuperInteraction: lightsaber_CombineWith_PickedKyberCrystal_Protection_3--></T> </U> Now click on Local Tunings at the bottom, copy the entire line from your custom interaction, then replace the original interaction you just added to the group with yours (sorry for the unrelated material, using an image from one of my tutorials). If this is too much then override is probably best. No idea why EA changed it.

Thank you so much MizoreYukii, for taking the time to reply and educate me. I really, really appreciate it.
All in all it sort of worked and sort of didn't. My recolor showed up and was finally able to be installed with a kyber, BUT - instead of the recolor I made the lightsaber now looked like the original, and likewise when I had the sim train with it, it was the original that was used, not my recolor (the thumbnail still showed mine though).
I've kind of admitted defeat at this point and done as you suggested, picked the one recolor I wanted most and made an override with it.
