I wonder if you can help me with a tuning mod I'm trying to create. I want to add the social action "talk to" to an inanimate object. I've recoloured cobwebs to become spider webs with multiple spiders. For the positive effect version, I'd like my Sims to be able to talk to the spiders and have it affect the social need. I've been looking for the simplest object to copy tuning from, but I'm having a difficult time finding one. I initially tried to modify the hi tec talking toilet tuning, but it messed up my game. Likely because I need to modify more than the super affordances. I looked for food plants in S4S but I couldn't locate them. What do you think is the best way for me to proceed?
Thanks for any and all help,
Simmiller

Hi simmiller , I suppose this is something for upcoming Halloween? I'm also making a mod with spiderwebs, but you can't talk to them in my case :P Anyway, I also took a look at the talking toilet one time, but it looks quite complicating for me too. As for the food plants, did you checked the "Show Debug items" checkbox? As for finding the food plants after that, type "GardenPlant" into the search bar, you will find a lot of food plants this way. I looked at one of them at took a look in the super affordances list too to find this interaction: "<T>13419<!--Gardening_Talk_To_Plants--></T>" If it works adding that line to your object's super affordances, you can also try to change the interaction text. Start with copying the code in front of it, so "13419" and place that into the search bar when extracting tuning, you will get this specific interaction. Then follow my tutorial about changing in game interaction text which can be found here: Tutorial: How to change In-game (Interaction) TextHope this can help you get a bit further with your project.

Hi Bakie,
Thank you for taking the time to help me. Are you adding more moving spiders? That will be cool.
So, in my endeavours, adding the "talk to" line does not work with the object_sculpture tuning. I think I need to add an interaction, and I'm not sure how to place that inside the tuning. S4S allows me to extract the super interaction tuning for friendly chitchat from the talking toilet, but when I add it to the original XML file, it tells me this: Unexpected end of file has occurred. The following elements are not closed: I. Line 311, position 5. That is the last line of the file. Can I add that as an extra tuning file, or can there only be one?
I'm starting to wonder if I'm taking this on too late for Halloween, LOL! Even if not, it will still be good for Vampires.

Bakie, I'm close. I'm using the Hi Tec toilet tuning, and have removed quite a bit of it, but I can't seem to make the web unbroken. Here's a pic, just FYI. Converse Error In Game
I'm having trouble getting the pic to show so I linked it in the meantime.

Hi simmiller, I'm very very VERY sorry for not answering your questions anymore. I haven't been that much on the forum lately. As for your Error in game, I have never seen such an error so I'm also not sure how that can be fixed.. After adding the interaction tuning from the super affordances list, you will have to change the interactions data name, so a new code will be made. This code then needs to be replaced by the original code in the super affordances list. If you're still working on this project, can you send me the package file so I can take a look? Also, you can use @ bakie, but then right after each other to tag me, so I will get a notification of your question.

Hi Bakie, I know you're a busy man, and I put this on the bottom of my list for now, but here are my 2 latest attempts at adding tuning. However, I didn't get to the part where I put everything in one XML file, nor have I changed any data names on this one. I recently went through an online XML course to help me better understand our tuning, and it helped a little bit. There was someone else who had added interactions to an object, similar to what I'm trying to do, but I can't find the post anymore. I've tried so many ways to get this to work, and I know I can, but figuring out the XML format is making me bonkers 8-| If you can help, it would be greatly appreciated! And then you'd have a new tutorial video to make! Thanks for your time :D Web with Talking SpidersWeb ConnectionBakie

Hello Bakie . First of all, thanks for all your efforts and dedication to making these cool tutorials. I'm trying to add custom tuning to an object I'm making, similar to the Vet Podium from Cats & Dogs: sims go to it and click around on the tablet before checking their pets. Problem is, I just want this animation of clicking around on the tablet, without all the vet stuff, and then maybe playing a custom sound. Right now, I'm trying to figure out what I can do with the super affordances, or if I can make custom ones to fit my object. How do you think I should proceed to do this? EDIT: I watched one of necrodog 's tutorials where he extracts tuning of an interaction and then edits it. But in my case, I don't know which parts of the interaction to keep (the simple animation of touching the tablet), because the Vet podium has alot of venue-specific code (PetOwner, customer, etc.). I don't know which one to start with, to just extract what i need and take out the rest. Here's the interaction I extracted.

Hi Eli, Looks like a complicated thing you want to get working! I'm not very familiar with that kind of custom tuning, whenever I try something like that it needs a lot of trial and error as I can't "read" those codes either. Another part you should check maybe is in the Object Catalog line. There's a section called "Tags", if you click the "edit item" button there on the original pet podium, you might find some Func_ tags your object will be needing too to make it to work, but I'm not sure about that in your case. I think necrodog will be of a greater help in this case, he's more into these kind of custom tunings then I am.

I don't think I mentioned that I cloned the Vet Podium and replaced it's mesh and textures with mine. So now it works like a normal Vet podium and sims click around on it. Now I need to just figure out what to remove without breaking it. Thanks for the reply

Hello there I'm changing the tuning on the antique teapot to be a functional brewer. I've got everything done, except I keep getting an error where the brewing options are greyed out, and it tells me I can't use the object while on the ground, but it's actually on a counter. Should I be making my changes after clicking Create new mesh, instead of standalone? Or is something else causing the issue, do you think? Thanks for any help! I think I might be better off bringing the antique teapot mesh into the brewer files instead. I'll give that a whirl.
