I've been trying to make some prehistoric-y wood default replacements for the cups and bowls and such in game, but I can't seem to get rid of the shine. :( Also my banana leaf plate override is too shiny: I've blanked the specs, though sometimes I can't be sure what is supposed to be a bump and whats a spec so maybe I've messed up somewhere (also I had to do A LOT OF THEM which increases the chance for error). I've also poked around elsewhere over the last few days so I forget what else I've done, but here are two of the packages if that helps. Any advice would be appreciated! TIA!

I have tried everything except messing with the shaders too deeply, because I don't know what I'm doing. I did change a phongalpha to just a phong i think, though. Does anyone know of any tutorials or anything that teach more about different kinds of shaders? all i can find are a few about changing *to* phongalpha or simglass in the shaders, but nothing else.. :(

Okay I GOT IT! For posterity I'll share here: Basically I experimented to see how many phong shaders i could get rid of, and then the one left (that would make it turn invisible if i got rid of, which not all the plates had but the empty plate did), I put on the "painting" shader. Same with the cups. I'd really like the banana leaf to be a little more shiny, but I couldn't find anything that was less shiny than the picture above, so I just went with the matte look rather than extra glassy/gummy.

Hi! Do you mind telling me how you were able to remove the shine? I'm in the process of making deco sims (objects in build/buy mode), but in-game, they are so shiny and I am trying to get the matte look that you achieved!

Just make the specular map pure black. Export the specular from whatever you cloned, open it in Photoshop, make it pure black. If there's an alpha channel make it pure black, too. Save as a DDS. Import it back into your package. If there's an alpha channel, use these settings. If no alpha use these settings. Be sure mimmaps has been selected. The game uses them for the lower LODs. And I don't know this for sure as I never do—I think it's bad practice, personally—but if you use the make empty function for your specular I think Studio will replace it with a white specular. Again, I don't know this for sure because I always make a custom specular. People often run into trouble when they use the make empty feature of Studio. If it helps, make a specular that's, like, 1024 x 1024 that's pure black and a bump map about the same size that's just grey. Hang onto them. You can reuse those textures anytime you don't want to make a custom specular and bump.
