At the risk of sounding profoundly stupid, how do I successfully extract (clone or add swatch to) a Face Paint from the game?
Is it at all possible? I've tried multiple times with no luck (the one I'm aiming for is from the Journey to Batuu pack, but I've tried with others just to see if that worked), the resulting package is "empty", no actual images in the options to use.
I've looked through the guides and used the search option and haven't found anything on this subject really, but if there _is_ something addressing this and I'm just missing it somehow, then I apologize for bringing it up (and would be grateful if someone could tell me where to find it).

What item specifically are you trying to clone, does s4s throw any exceptions and can you provide a screenshot of the resultant package?

I am trying to clone or add a swatch to the Journey to Batuu Mirialan face paint (that is, the green face paints with dark patterns on them), although just to try it out I have attempted the same with a few different face paints from other packs/base game, and the results are the same. I get a package but the swatches show nothing... hopefully I can show you what I mean with a few pictures (this is of the Batuu face paint) What I'm copying: What it looks like in S4S: Hopefully you can see the issue even if my explanation is awkward. I select a swatch but there's nothing there, both the diffuse and the shadow DDS are blank. (hope the images work this time)

I have the same problem on some face paints. I think that the current version of s4 studio still isn't 100% compatible with the latest patch. Some of them work fine but on most of them the texture doesn't show up When you clone one of the face paints in the red this is how it looks

Unfortunately certain makeup now uses a yet to be decoded texture format, LRLE. If you're up to it, some work is going to be involved to recolor one. Take note, this only applies to makeup before the MAC makeup update. Better solution below: sims4studio.com/post/150663/threadOriginal post: {Spoiler} 2. Create an "Override" .package of your desired makeup. 3. In the CAS Part, under DiffuseMap, change the Group number to 80000000 4. In the CAS Part, copy the I nstance number underneath DiffuseMap. 5. In a separate window of Sims4Studio open the HD .packages one by one looking for the RLE2 image with the same Instance number. 6. Batch Export that RLE2 Image. (This retains the instance number of the image.) 7. Batch Import that image into your override .package. 8. Save. Close all instances of Sims 4 Studio. 9. Copy over your new .package to the Sims 4 Studio Mods folder. Default location: C:\Users\[UserName]\Documents\Sims 4 Studio\Mods 10. Open Sims 4 Studio again and create CAS as usual using your newly created CC override as the base. Note: Someone seriously should make an override .package for all the changed makeup so people can work with them. But that will take some work. Sims 4 Studio being able to decode LRLE would be preferable, of course.

Thank you for the help simguy80, that DOES seem to work for the basegame/various other face paints, but sadly not for the Journey to Batuu face paint I was trying for. A new package with that one is still just as empty as before with this solution. But at least this should help sigma1202 with his problem?

EA's game devs didn't share the information about a new format that they started using recently in makeup , it is still not decoded. Without EA's documentation some things are either impossible to do or will take a lot of time to implement.

that DOES seem to work for the basegame/various other face paints, but sadly not for the Journey to Batuu face paint I was trying for. That is correct. As I stated in my previously quoted post it uses the LRLE file format. The fix I posted works for makeup that was in the game before the MAC update (which came before the Batuu DLC). If the new Snow DLC has new makeup, I would imagine it uses the new (still undecrypted) format as well. Unrelated to your issue specifically, but I have yet to check what the new skin update has done to the older skin color replacer mods, which also now use the LRLE texture format. (EA knows people mod this game. Why they even made a new image format that isn't easily decoded is beyond me.)

I'm afraid I just didn't know what a MAC update referred to or when that was, since I hadn't played the game at all since the spellcaster pack came out, until Journey to Batuu was released. (I, uh, kind of thought at first that MAC was a reference to Mac computers, but looking more closely at the options in makeup there are some lipstick/blush/eyeshadow things that say MAC? Again, I apologize for not catching that) Well. That's that then, I guess. No chance of me being able to create an unmarked or a differently tattooed version of that lovely green face paint to use as a fake skin, at least not yet. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that one of you incredibly clever people manage somehow to figure out the new format eventually.
