So I'm new to modding and having a very good time playing around. I want to add a trait to an object, but not sure how to do this. I found the tutorial about object tuning, but it only tells me how to take a trait away.
So say I want to have a sim go up in flames whenever they eat an apple. I know I have to alter the apple object, but that is about as much as I know.
That was just an odd example. I'm not really looking to set my Sims on fire from eating an apple.

Don't take my word for it as I've yet to do anything involving this but I'm pretty sure that would involve XML tuning/editing. I did a search on "traits" in the creator help section and found a lot of posts. Take a look HERE

Objects don't normally have traits. Please explain what you actually are trying to do, so someone can point you in the right direction. Tutorials for traits will almost certainly lead you astray.

So in my silly example I would be trying to alter the code to make the eating of an apple cause the Sim to go up in flames. I've looked through the object tuning and scrolled down through the XML to the super affordances section. I'm just not sure how to add this to the unfortunate result to the apple.

Once you've found the interaction to eat the apple, you'll need to find some other game tuning that involves Sims catching on fire, and figure out how to combine the two. TDESCs can help but there's no magic tutorial that will explain exactly how, since tuning varies a lot from object to object and interaction to interaction. None of it is likely to involve traits, though.
