I'm kind of new to creating custom content and haven't shared that many creations, but it's still such a bummer. I contacted them and now have to wait for an answer, has this happened to anyone else? Maybe they mistook it for spam or a bot.

Adfly has increasingly been plagued with malware, so taking a guess I'd say that's the most likely cause. The past few times I've accidentally clicked adfly-type links (normally I avoid them), my antivirus has caught a bad file and the browser hasn't even let the site open - not just once, but every time.
I never considered these links particularly safe when they first showed up, but the past couple years they've been extreme.
A lot of simmers these days don't like downloading from adfly-type links, anyway. They're considered unsafe.

This happens quite frequently to folks using adfly or other link shortners. Tumblr doesn't allow adfly and link shorteners it's against their policy. The link shorteners many times are riddled with malware and virus issues that can lead to a lot of money being spent to fix a computer.
If you want your CC to be available, I would suggest other options like Google Drive and SFS and add a space for donations or start up a patreon (but be warned folks will give you heck if you keep stuff behind paywalls too long. The TOU of EA has been said that you're supposed to bring stuff out of paywalls and to the public for free after a week or so. I've seen longer and I've seen shorter...and I've seen people who kept their things behind patreon access so long they got brow beat by the community to retiring.
Just give folks options that they can be sure are safe ways to download your CC and likely folks will donate if they can afford to and the CC is good enough. Like much else, if you give folks options, they will come and just maybe some will give a couple of muns for your stuff because you've given them free and safe options for downloads.
