Hello, I wasn't sure how to word it, but I'm making a frankenmesh toddler dress. The texture looks good in game (besides shadow so far) but making the bump map has been difficult. I'm using GIMP 2.0, and when I get to the step of decomposing the image, pieces of the image that I had previously erased show back up. (Also, why are the top edges jagged)? Here are some screenshots For the first two problem images, I left them in color to be able to show off the problem better. The TextureThe File

Hi. The alpha channel of the bump map on the screenshot looks black and white, which is not what it should be. My guess is that this is causing problems
Try it like this: - export the normal maps from both items in png; - open one normal map, place the other map on top, do what you need to do. Do not create an alpha channel, png does not support alpha, it supports regular transparecy; - save the result in png; - import it in s4s, check in game; - if there are no problems ( along the edges of the garment), then everything is fine.

Hello, thank you for the response! I'm having a couple problems, though. When I import the bump maps into GIMP and remove the alpha layer, they turn a pale green color instead of the normal gray. However, when I click the eye to simply hide the alpha layer, it turns the regular gray. Green
My second problem is that I'm struggling to combine the two. I've tried erasing pieces, I've tried matching the gray color (which makes a huge mess lol)w What is the "proper" way to erase pieces of a bump map so that I can combine the two frankenmesh bump maps? Thanks for your help so far!

Hold on, when you open a png file in GIMP, there is an alpha channel? I’ve never used GIMP but it should probably work the same as photoshop in that sense. Having alpha channel just doubles the amount of work that you need to do.
What are the names of the items that you are combining? Did you move uvs?

Yes, GIMP automatically creates an alpha channel for both PNGs and DDS files. These are the ones I'm combining: This Tank Top pmTop_SP12Tanktop The Skirt From This Dress puBody_SP17PinaforeCrochet Honestly I forget if I changed the UV, I think I just raised the skirt a little because the textures weren't matching up, but they are now. However, the UV map itself looks weird, but the texture looks fine in game. UV Map

Open either of their normal maps, as you see, it is square, not rectangular. It is not shrank vertically, the top half is cut out. This leads to the misalignment of uvs with the normal map and is the number one cause of the problem. I'm going to explain what to do in photoshop because it is the only thing i know. If you know GIMP well, you should be able to adapt these instructions. If you are new to GIMP, it's best to use Photopea, the free online photoshop rip-off, instead because photoshop tutorials will apply and there are a lot more of them than for GIMP. - in uv editor press B, click and drag to select uvs of the dress, UVs - Export uv layout. Set the size to 1024x2048, opacity to 1; - open this image in Photopea, Image - Canvas size, click on the down facing arrow, and change the height to 1024, press Ok, then Proceed, save the image, close; - open the first normal map(dress), select everything with Ctrl A, File - Place, choose the second normal map(top), click Enter (or choose any tool) and choose Place; - select everything again, place the image of the uv layout; - in the Layers tab to the right you can rename layers to dress, top and uvs. You need to RMB-click on the top and choose Rasterize layer to be able to edit it; - select the uvs layer, choose Rectangular Marquee tool, select the top part of the uvs. Select Magic Wand tool, enable Subtract from selection, click where the arrow is pointing; - select the dress layer, press Delete; - select the top layer, choose Select - Inverse, press delete; - now you can RMB-click on the top layer and choose Merge down to join it with the dress layer; - ctrl LMB-click on the uvs layer to select its content, Select - Modify - Expand, type 7, invert the selection; - select the dress layer, press delete, RMB-click on the empty space, choose Fill. Then choose 50% gray and 50%, ok; - delete the uvs layer, save as png, thats all.

I can’t check from pc rn to make sure, but it looks like the background is too dark. Did you choose 50% Gray specifically? Did you set opacity to 50%? Check the last picture in instructions

I tried to, but it only let me change the percentage of the opacity. There wasn't an option to change the gray percentage.

50% gray is the name of the most, like, neutral gray. It’s 50% black + 50% white. I’m can’t tell what the exact hex code of it is without pc but google suggests 808080. You must choose the right shade of grey for it to work.

Photopea appeared to have a gray preset exactly to what I needed, as I tried the hex code and it came up the same color. This is what it looked like FillHere's what it looks like with the fill (also I was able to erase the edges around the shoulders to fix the lines) AfterIn GameIt's looking better, there's just those few odd spots that I circled. I'll keep trying different things to see if it helps.

I've got it!!! Thank you SO much for all of your help and patience! I was messing around with the map to see what I could fix, and was able to make the gray the correct color (I'm not sure how I did it) The map had some white spots on the edge of the dress but I could not see any abnormalities in game. The dress is looking great in CAS! The Dress
Again, thank you for all of your help!
