Hi! I was wondering, what is the best way to create fur clothes for the sims in marvelous designer? I saw this coat by marigold and I want to create something similar myself. I know it’s probably easier to recreate fur through the texture, but I want to learn anyway. Thank you!
Hi. This was created in blender or any similar software by extruding edges. It would be much more troublesome to do this in MD. I don’t recommend you to do it because the process is quite troublesome and results will not be particularly good no matter what
- find a maxis coat of similar shape to what you want yours to be, clone, export, open; - select everything, Mesh - Faces - Tris to quads. Remove doubles with Merge distance set to 0,0001. Optionally delete all body parts. Modify the shape if needed (to make it puffier, select the area and Alt S, to make it longer or shorter, enable Proportional editing); - when done, in blender select the bottom edge loop and extrude it; - Select - select more/less - more, unwrap (does not matter how at this point, this way you will just have an easier time selecting all fur geometry); - repeat the process until all horizontal edge loops are extruded; - how to unwrap them depends on the texture, - once the mesh has the shape you want, re-adapt it (if you made it longer or shorter); - check how the mesh behaves in-game, ignoring the lack of transparency; - once happy, select all uvs of the fur and separate it in 3d view. Assign a different cut; - create a new meshgroup inside the package, import your blend there, change the shader to Simglass; - once you check in it CAS, you will notice that it looks…oddly shaded. Marigold resolved it by making the mesh “glow” with the emission map. The trade off is that it does look even remotely realistic.
