Hi! This post is about the grey color that needs to be filled into the channels. Recently I watched the great tutorial by Syboulette about normal maps where she suggested to use a 128 RGB grey color to fill in the channels (for those who use Gimp it's 808080 HTML). However, I've also checked the EA normals and there the grey used is 132 RGB (that is 848484 HTML). Currently I'm using a 4x4 blank normal map filled with 132 RGB grey. However, I was wondering about your practice. How your blank normal map is made? Do you use the 128 RGB o 132 RGB?

Hi. You are meant to use 50% grey ( hex 808080 ), this is what maxis uses. There's kind of... no good way of sampling it because in png it is semi-transparent, in dds rgb and alpha have grey of different hex codes
But using 50% grey is the most reasonable choice because it is right in between white and grey. If you were to fill a portion of a maxis normal map with 50% gray with 50% opacity, it would match perfectly
