Hi all
I have around 23,000 package files and was considering merging into various folders to assist with load times.
I have everything sorted into over 100 different folders ie: Computers, Stoves, Paintings, Plants etc...
What is the max number of package files you can or SHOULD merge without it causing issues?
I have read about peoples's games crashing if they use a file in game that has been merged into a large file.
Unsure if I should bother with this seeing as the game loads in about 5 minutes anyway but the thumbnails for items can take a while to load.
Cheers!

Hi. We advice people to not merge packages for this purpose at all. Often times the game updates break cc. To fix it, you need to unmerge these packages and batch fix them. Some cc is either too old or too broken to unmerge properly, so you may simply loose it. Some people say that this does not even help with speeding up the game ( i don't know, haven't tested myself). What helps is disabling that pop up window that lists all cc you have.

If you want to merge packages: 1. Never merge script mods (even though many script mods can be merged to a big .ts4script file) and their .package files. 2. Make sure to create a few folders with <2 GB of .package files each. The older and stable the content the better. Selecting all files in a folder works fine in S4S, everything else (eg. selecting 100 folders) might be a pain. 3. Keep the original files as a reference, you might want to use them for a batch fix (instead of un-merging the files).
For batch fixes you really want to move the individual files to the Mods folder and remove the big ones. I can say that fixing 3 items in a 2 GB files works fine but it takes a while and the .backup file will be 2 GB ... if 5 files are fixed 10 GB backups may be a pain.
