It's easier to get abducted as a scientist or if you use the big telescope a lot. you can find settings in the mod mccc to up the frequency of visits and change how the abductions happen. I had one gamesave where I was continually abducted.... and others where it rarely occurred. But the mc command setting helps change it to your desired level.
I'll be honest. I haven't played with the jobs in a long time. I generally just send them to work without going with them because it's easier and I like to be lazy.
