Probably not possible to stop it but I really do not want it to do this. I'm perfectly happy with my current game version as it is the most stable for me (1.90.375.1020) and I have no intention of updating it (don't care at all about infants or any new packs), but S4S now refuses to work despite having worked just fine before. If it's not possible to stop it, is it at least possible to downgrade it or something? I still have package files to fix but this hinders me. If that isn't possible either, I guess all I can do is just suck it up and deal with it

Hi. S4S relies on the game files, so if you haven’t updated the game, s4s shouldn’t have stopped working because of it. It may have been something else. What exactly happens? Does it just not start?

When I open it, it seems like a normal startup but then the 'game patch' window opens up and seems like it's attempting to update the game (or so the wording implies to me) and I quickly X out of it to avoid any changes, but it also results in the entire program closing. Perhaps it could be the possibly now outdated version I have (v3.1.6.3 Wishes) and a newer one won't do that? I only started having the issue when EA tried forcing the switch from Origin (not doing that yet either, reasons) and messed up the game (saying it's not installed, all packs missing, etc.), but even after managing to fix all that, the problem with S4S persists without a clear way to stop it from doing that
Edit: Tried the newest open beta version, it does the same thing unfortunately

I still haven't been able to figure out a way around this, so I suppose I'm simply going to have to deal with not being able to use it for future projects for the time being. Both the community tested and open beta versions have the same problem of the game patch window popping up and not allowing anything else to be done and closing the entire program when stopped. I can't recall it ever happening before, but it was happening before the 'big update' last week, when EA messed with Origin around mid to late February for me, so I can only guess that that whole disaster did something to the game files that makes S4S act up, but I can't fathom a solution for that either. I can't double-check the game directory as it won't allow me to do anything else, so all I can do is just accept it for now
The game itself still works (as far as I've noticed), it's just S4S being uncooperative with it all of a sudden

Someone with more experience may correct me, but if you reinstalled your game, I think S4S may just be trying to read what game files you do have, especially since you've also reinstalled S4S. I don't think it's trying to update the game (I don't think it has that capability) so much as it's just trying to work, and it needs to read the game files to work. It has to do that anew whenever there's an update, but it may have needed to do it here because of whatever you had to do to fix the issues you had in February.

It is trying to read missing files. Newer Studio can read older patches as far as I know.

It's mainly the wording of it confusing me since it implies direct alteration of the game (even though it probably isn't), and I'm just wanting to make sure since my situation is a rather uncommon one. If I hit 'click to clean up patch files' it says 'Are you sure your game is done patching?' and it just adds further confusion. Do I simply leave this and let it try to read the missing files and nothing big will really happen? I apologize if this is a bit ridiculous, I just haven't had this occur before and I do use S4S a lot but would rather the game version remain untouched for now I know I'd probably be better off updating it but I have reasons not to right now

Judging by what Feyona is saying, this may be normal (Maybe the developers updated this window on the community tested version or it looks different on different versions of windows), but just in case, did you download s4s from this website or elsewhere? Have you tried re-installing s4s? Deleting s4s folder from Documents? Repairing the game? Can you check your computer for viruses, making sure that s4s is not in the exceptions?

I had never seen it before either until last month, so that's kind of why I was searching for answers to make sure if it was normal or not. I had downloaded both the community tested and beta versions only from this site, both did the same thing. I did try a reinstall but no dice, and I'm reluctant to repair the game since I was told it force-updates it in the process and I still don't want that happening yet (new versions sound more broken than before). My antivirus didn't pick up anything suspicious, so all I can assume is that something's gone wrong with the game itself from EA being EA and sticking me between a rock and a hard place. Aside from the game issue, I hadn't done anything to change S4S when it first started happening. It does look like I'm going to have to just deal with it in this case, which isn't too bad but I had been hoping to do some package merging to make the game a bit faster, but that's life

Hi bungusmcscrungus, That screen is showing because of the files listed ending with .eaPatchDiff and .eaPatchTemp were found in your game files. Files with those extensions are used by Origin (and I would think the new EA app) during the patching process. When S4S sees those files there, it assumes that your game is being patched and won't continue until they are gone (if your game is being patched, they go away on their own at the end of the patching process). S4S does this because starting S4S while your game is in the middle of being patched can cause problems in S4S. Clicking the option at the bottom deletes those files and allows S4S to start. If letting S4S delete those files makes you uncomfortable, you can also manually move or delete them and then S4S will be able to start again.
