All emission map tutorials I can find are extremely out of date and I am doing my best, but I cannot figure out what is wrong with this. I want to create a red, solid glow on the red part of these glasses. When I import the dds file I made into the emission texture, the entire sim disappears in CAS! When I import the png file, there is a glow but it flashes. (I am aware that the uv map is taking up more than the glasses section by the way, that is fine, this will not be used with any other accessories.)

Hi. The file you shared doesn't have a mesh for glasses. It's just the outfit. I've not used the emission map yet (I will on my next project) but my understanding is that the emission map must be tied to a mesh. Without a mesh, it won't work. There's a tutorial sims4studio.com/thread/2544/get-emission-map?page=1. FYI, you should separate the edges of the jacket and the belt. Anywhere there would be a sharp fold. Use the edge split modifier for it. Look at the section titled, " Bottom of my garment is covered by a shadow." If you put your mesh into solid view mode you'll see unsightly shading on some of the edges. The solution is to split those edges.
