Hello, so I have a bed that I'm making and I wanted to add a separate object on top of the bed (a pile of clothes) I have the bed ready and weight painted the clothes to match the bed. I went onto every vertex group and made sure that I weight painted the clothes correctly (at least I hope so) However, idk if I'm missing a step cause in game the clothes get stretched out. I'm not entirely sure why it's doing this. I feel like it could be the way I added into the file. I exported the clothes from a base game asset, and when I put it in I moved it on top then sculpted it around to lay on the bed naturally, I didn't clear any of the transformations before joining the meshes. Idk if that could be the cause tbh, but I thought it would be good to know for who ever is willing to test it out. The textures are not finished yet, still tweaking and working on making it better. Hi. Instead of manually painting the mesh, try retransferring weights from the bed - in uv editor enable sync( the button in the bottom-left corner), select the uvs of the cloth, in 3d view press P, choose Selection; - select the bed, Ctrl-select the cloth, Transfer weights with the following settings, then Limit total - join the cloth back with the bed

Thank so much, that does seem to make it better, unfortunately I think I messed up the original weight paint so now it looks like the bed caved in a bit, will have to redo it possibly. Is it usually a better idea to transfer weights instead of doing it yourself? Also thanks so much for that sync tip, I'm used to maya and being able to select the UVs and it also selecting the mesh in 3D view. I missed that so much :')

It depends. For example, if the placement of pillows on your bed differs from the reference, the weights will not transfer correctly and the pillows will not behave as intended. In those cases it is best to assign bones to pillows individually to prevent the paint from getting anywhere else, like, don’t want the blanket to move with the pillows. But if it’s something like this cloth laying on the blanket, then sure, simply transferring weights is faster, easier and will give you better results. So it’s just a matter of precision.
