pammiechick Make sure that your images sizes are powers of 2^n. That means squares of 256x256, 512x512, 1024x1024, or rectangles 256x512, 512x1024, etc. You can't use other sizes than powers of 2 or they will not load in the game correctly.

I just wanted to thank you for a stunningly clear and easy-to-follow tutorial!
For some strange reason, I was desperate for a recolor in the middle of the night, when I was three-quarters asleep, and even my very tired and foggy brain found your tutorial extremely clear and easy. I've tried to teach people how to do all kinds of things, so I know it's not as easy as you make it look. :-) Thank you!

Is there something that needs to be done differently for recoloring lights? I was trying the good night little lights from the kid stuff and while i was able to get the pictures on, the shadow didn't show up, it just looks like a grey bar instead of the shadows like the normal one. I can't help but thing I'm missing one small detail. I can post pictures if you'd like to see.
Was just hoping that someone might have a quick answer to my problem or recognized it from their own recolors?

Sparkiekong Hello. I don't undestand the problem too much from the reading. Can you post a pic of the issue? Any recolor should mess up anything else like the shadows. However, if that object happens to have a bump map is probable that you see the remains of that texture. It all depends on the item you cloned, so if you post a pic i can see what you mean.

Sure thing, I didn't think I was explaining myself well enough! :( If you look at EA's night light with the pictures hanging on it. There's just the string of lights and shadow.. no bar. if you look at the ones above it, are my noobish attempts at making something unique for my storyline... the wires have a grey square around them. I thought maybe it's something with it being a light or maybe i just missed something... So close yet so far... thanks for responding.

Hi! I think this is a transparency issue. Those wires from the EA mesh are actually drawn into a plane so they have to remove the background in order to look like that. It could be possible that when you did your recolor you missed to save with the alpha channel and therefore the transparency is not showing up as it should. I don't know what format you use, but if you're using .DDS make sure you save your recolor as Interpolated alpha DXT5 otherwise the alpha channel won't be saved. You shouldn't have this problem with .png files. If you don't understand what I mean with the whole alpha thing post the .package and I can get to the textures and post some pics of what I mean.

Ok. I started with dds, but then realized that the new s4s is liking png.. so I'm going to retry it. I just gotta pay more attention to the alpha layer stuff which is something new for me. if I get stuck again I will cry out for help! :D Thank you. I will get back to you soon!

I tried the recolor with pngs and it went so much smoother! Thank you! See all better! Now i just need to make some more swatches!

Hi alpacaisnotonfire, if you're starting a brand new project, press the Object button on the front page. That should bring up a thumbnail list of all the EA items that you can choose from to clone. If you aren't getting that list, please post again.

Hello im having big struggles recoloring. Having question marks coming up on my paintings.
Im trying to recolor the The Leaf Pile Prints from dine out. when i create a new project with it and put it straight into the game with no changes it works. When I export the texture and import it again with NO CHANGES it is broken in the game. This happens with a few other paintings as well.
The only painting i manage to make it work is a square kids painting with a lady bug and purple frame. It works to export and import and even change texture after many tries.
I have followed all tutorials I could find, and tried to read all forums but none of the suggestions worked. I am making sure that the image is the right size but the problem doesn't occur when I do changes is the file i'm receiving from The Sims Studio that is already broken for me.
Anyone knows how to fix this?
