Okay so.. I've tried probably every tutorial when it comes to making specular maps. Whenever I import them, they don't show up in s4s. Is there a super easy tutorial on how I can do this? I know how to make the mask spec, but I'm not too sure how to export it right photos.app.goo.gl/fqBbwS8KcvrKcwKN6When it comes to the other dds file, is it supposed to be translucent?

Don’t show up in s4s - on the model? They are not meant to, only diffuse is previewed in s4s. Or don’t import? Export the original specular from the package, edit it, save, re-import. No re-sizing, no re-naming. Yes, the first file is meant to be translucent, the second - opaque, black and white.

The specmap should be dds right? When I export the specmaps from s4s they dont have a name, since I've clicked "make blank". When I then export them into photoshop I'm met with this: What should it be when I export it? edit: Here's the package file if you want to look at it package + testmap and mask

Hi, I usually use .png for specular map since it's easier to manage (no need for plugin), resolution 512 x 1024. Make 2 file for the spec color and spec mask, example : shirt_spec.png and shirt_spec.mask.png If your confuse how it should look, try exporting maxis spec map as png.
When importing just select one of the file, S4S will import both.

always do things like this: - find a maxis item that is similar to yours; - export all of its lods and textures with studio.exportall cheat; - open each, study, modify, save, re-import. This will prevent 99% of problems and answer most of the questions.
If you will export the texture after removing it, of cource nothing will be exported

I think my problem comes with the exporting part from Photoshop - s4s with dds files. There's something wrong, and I don' really know what to do ._. I tried BokchoiJo's method ab using png files, that did work, but I'm just not sure how the normal spec.file should look like. I see ppl using green as their backround, and ea using transparent with theirs... what is the correct method if you're making a completely normal top like the one I showed you? This is all very confusing, I'm sorry for asking so much!

When importing just select one of the file, S4S will import both. png's did work! But what colour should the "shirt_spec.png" be? I've seen ppl use transparent and/or green. Do you have an example of yours you could show me? I think there is something wrong when I try to look at the ea ones, bc they don't show how I need them to!:/

For clothing that doesn't have any sheen or spec, maxis usually just put empty/transparent spec color. I mostly use transparent spec color when I'm making mine because I just want "plain" cloth, the only time I change the spec color is when I'm making metal or plastic accessories. If you want the clothing to sheen or have specularity you can check this post (last time I read there's still no official explanation how the spec color work from EA, haven't check again). sims4studio.com/post/16901/threadsims4studio.com/post/16866/threadJust remember to not look at the final color (red,green,brown,purple,etc) but look at individual value (black to white) in the RGB channel. If you're still confused what to put in the spec color, try finding a maxis clothing that have similar specular property that you want. Export the spec map, just color pick from the maxis one and use the same color in yours.
