This is my first time trying to do any of my own custom content, so forgive my ignorance. I've poured over tutorials, videos, and support threads to make sure I'm doing it right. I'm so close... but can't figure out the last piece. I simply recolored a pair of riding boots using GIMP. Exported as DDS package file to my mods folder. When I open in S4S it's the new color (red). But when I open in CAS it's the same old brown. Since I'm new I am still trying to figure out the different file extensions. Right now my mods folder has a GIMP 2.10.24 DDS file, a PACKAGE file, and a GIMP 2.10.34 XCF. I exported from GIMP using the BC3/DXTS compression. Again, it loads into S4S just fine, but in game shows the original color with the custom content icon. I also found the tip to delete the localthumbcache and did that to no change. Please let me know what I'm doing wrong.

Hi. Did you use Save as or just copied and renamed one package to create a new one?

Yes I used Save as. It's the same file in both programs but it's only recolored in S4S

That’s the wrong thing to do. Both files share the same identifiers, so they are presented as one item. You are meant to use Create CAS Standalone to make new standalone packages
