I want to create a base game item and use a certain shader, but I'm not sure it will work for base game.

Best way to find it is to try it and see. Sometimes experimentation is the ONLY way to find out as EA doesn't provide a lot of information. But, yes, I would think that all shaders would work in the base game. I don't see why not.
