There was no improvement because vertex paint did not transfer. Also, you must never transfer anything to the body itself. Right now the leg is affected by skirt bones, for example
- in edit mode select a few areas on the legs, Ctrl L to select all, Delete - Faces;
- append the reference in the scene;
- transfer weights with nearest face interpolated again for smoother result;
- transfer vertex paint;
- add the legs;
Also, unrelated to this issue, but:
- when you close holes, collapse them instead of scaling down and unwrap (
quoted text), it will reduce the number of faces and vertices in this area;
- do not use MD's remesh, it only makes things worse. Either use quads or retopologize manually
