So I've read several threads regarding mesh group/cut number. I have also read about how to split mesh and already quite understand the steps. But I still don't understand when to do split mesh?
Is it at the start or when all the steps in the blender have been completed?

Hi. At the very end:
- adapt the mesh;
- test it on a one meshgroup package;
- if everything is ok, split and import into a proper package

Is it after baking texture?
At the beginning after appending the EA reference, are we just join the EA meshgroup?

This would be the most practical approach:
- clone a similar maxis mesh, export all resources, open lod0;
- File - Save as under a different name (progress.blend);
- join all parts of the reference;
- import your garment into the scene;
- you can close holes now or later, depends on whether you want them to join with the body the maxis way;
- transfer weights, vertex paint, uv_1;
- if possible to use a reference as a body, delete all areas of it covered by clothing. If not possible, use the body parts under the rig or append the nude mesh/swimsuit;
- join the body with the garment;
- this is where you’d want to close and unwrap holes the maxis way;
- make uv_0 (the body parts, covered by clothing, must be gone before you’ll start re-arranging uvs);
- export the uv layout, this will be your temporary diffuse;
- assign 0000 cut to your mesh;
- clone an item from one meshgroup, import your blend and diffuse there;
- test how the mesh behaves;
- bake textures;
- split the mesh, clone a proper package, import there;
- make lods

Thanks for detail steps. But I don't really understand about "Clone an item from one meshgroup". What does it mean?
Do I need to clone EA item that's have only 1 meshgroup?

Yes. Some items are made of multiple meshgroups, others of one. You need to test how your item behaves in game before splitting it, otherwise, if there is a problem, you will have to join them back.
Which is why you clone a maxis item made of one meshgroup, import your blend there for testing, fix problems if needed, and only after everything is good you split it

By the way, at the first the EA meshgroup must be join. Then at the end I have to split my mesh so the cut number/piece fit into the EA mesh. Does that mean I have to separate the previously merged EA meshgroups again?

No, forgot to mention, that you save the file under a different name to avoid that.
So when it’s time to split the mesh, you just open LOD 0, append your mesh from progress.blend and split it. Then delete the original, save, import into an original (not test) package

OK, I'll make sure, I hope I'm not mistaken
1. So I had to save lod0 with a different name (progress.blend) at the start
2. Then continue all the steps until finished
3. Checking my mesh in Onegroup Mesh (swimsuit/nude)
4. After baking, I added lod0 (progress.blend) again for the split mesh. And delete again progress.blend
5. Then I saved it and created the correct package
That is right?

yeah ( although you do not need to delete progress.blend, best to keep it just in case you'll find something wrong later)
