TL;DR I'm wondering about if about the HQ mod for screenshots but I don't know how to use it or if it's worth it at all. Can anyone advise me on this? Do you end up with a large screenshot that is too big to upload on Tumblr or Sims Resource?
I wrote a thread about this here (there are multiple screenshots on that thread) but thought I'd bring up the issue at this forum as well. I FINALLY finished that dress I was working on (nothing but problems but I learned a lot) and the screenshots are terrible. I needed at least a 3/4 body shot to show the dress, took the screenshot, opened it in Photoshop and was shocked at how bad the face looked. I tried taking larger resolution shots with SRWE but it's pointless given the size restrictions that Tumblr and Sims Resource, where I primarily upload my stuff, has for screenshots. Sims resource, for example, requires screenshots that are 800x600. So, what's the point of taking a 4K shot when you have to resize it and it ends up pixelated, regardless? I haven't made anything for TS4 for about a year and I don't remember the screenshots looking this bad. My settings in game are set to ultra and my graphics card is a Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650. Not the greatest graphics card but not too bad, either. Here's a vanilla sim. It was a full body shot and I opened the shot in Photoshop, zoomed into the face, then took a screenshot of what was on my computer screen: Same thing but with the custom sim I made: This is not a problem if I'm taking a close up screenshot of my sim's face in CAS. This is just how full body screenshots look when viewed up close in Photoshop.

Hi. Well, CAS does not really give you the freedom of choosing an angle or resolution. It would be a better idea to make preview in blender or at least in Live mode. If you want to bring your sims in blender, you can rip them with simripper. There are a lot of tutorials that show how to make those blender renders with sims on youtube If you will do that, i strongly advice to not play with the environment or materials too much, you want it to be as close to how it looks in-game as possible, otherwise it would be akin to false advertisement. These things alone can make a garment look much better and more realistic than it really is, but when players dont get what they expect, they get disappointed
As for hq mode, i feel like its a lot of trouble for something that is not even useful anymore. Now that we can rip sims, there really is no point in doing all of that and replacing so much content

Well, dang, I just got through downloading all the game's replacement files! You always know what the latest thing is that people are doing. How do you do it?!? I did not know that you can rip a sim and use that for screenshots. I'll definitely look into this, thank you. Yeah, it's not so much the outfit that has problems with the texture. At least in my opinion. Mostly. But the face pixilation on the sim is unacceptable. Thanks again, Mauvemorn. I know you'd have excellent advice.

Hey, can you recommend a good video? I found this one but I haven't watched it all the way through. It's long but seems thorough. I do better with written tutorials (I'm a read/write learner) but the rest of the world likes videos, I guess. Lol.

I haven’t actually watched any, but this one seems to cover everything you need, at least in the ripping/rigging/posing department Simripper should have written tutorials, though

I actually READ THIS TUTORIAL TWO DAYS AGO and forgot it! Ugh! I cannot believe how bad my memory is these days. I have one more quick question. When you say to be careful of materials what exactly are you referring to? Skin, makeup, hair and so on? Or using a custom Blender scene. I always use custom CAS items in my screenshots and I don't need a custom scene. Just a solid color floor and background (plane meshes).

What I mean is that you want to make your item look exactly as it does in-game, so that people know what they will be getting. Often time people overdo with aesthetics and the item ends up looking nothing like it really is For example, changing the shape of the garment to match the pose ( a sim lifting or unbottoning a shirt, wind ruffling a skirt, for example. People download it, thinking that’s what it will be shaped like, but no, it’s regular) Or introducing complex environment and assigning reflective material . It makes the garment look more complex and realistic, but not the way it really does

I learn so much from you.

But I am quite familiar with Photoshop. Instead of zooming in to get a super pixelated close up, have you tried converting the image to a smart layer and then resizing? I do this often and it prevents the pixelization. It's like turning an image into a vector instead of be rastersized.
