Not if you're careful what you're downloading. Install TwistedMexi's ModGuard which alerts you if you've installed a compromised mod, periodically run this tool from overwolf to clean up the specific kind of malware that's been making the rounds lately in case you have somehow acquired it, make sure you have a general purpose antivirus software installed as well (even Window's built-in security is decent), and just be wary of what you download and from whom. Official, legit updates to mods should come with some notes detailing what changed, etc. and be suspicious of CC coming with script files, it should only come in .package files usually. That's about it.

You should have your Mods folder organized in some way (though you have to keep it to a limited number of subfolders (I think you can only go five folders deep, and script mods can only go one subfolder deep). You can sort by creator, if that makes sense for you, or by type of CC/mod. Most clothing/hairs/furniture is updated only if broken by a specific patch, so you don't have to watch those as closely for updates. Objects and CASs items should only be .package files, so if you download one of those and a script file comes along, you should be very suspicious. Script mods generally involve changes to gameplay, such as adding careers or new traits. They generally come paired as a .package and a .ts4script file. These are more likely to break from patch to patch. If you have a tumblr, many major mod creators have one and post about their updates to their tumblrs with links to either curseforge, patreon, or simfileshare (or wherever they share their work). Keeping an eye on when they announce and explain their updates can help you evaluate if an update is genuine. Every time there's a new patch, luthienrising creates a new version of this thread: answers.ea.com/t5/Mod-CC-Issues/Broken-Obsolete-and-Updated-Sims-4-Mods-1-104-Jan-16-2024-Game/m-p/13400496These threads can be easily searched by googling "Sims 4 Broken Mods [x]" where [x] is the month and year of the most recent patch. This thread tracks creator updates and known issues to mods. It might not be auto-updates to your mods, but it does help keep track of which ones need to be updated. I advise checking it before you update your game, as it can tell you if there's something game-breaking. This thread will also give some good advice on staying safe: answers.ea.com/t5/Mod-CC-Issues/CURRENT-ISSUE-Malicous-Script-Mods/td-p/13469910Good luck out there!
