Looking for a mod to be made that prevents sims from autonomously playing instruments on the lot, only when manually instructed. The one I found on ModTheSims apparently seems to break the menu and prevent playing them at all according to the comments.

You probably want to look into MC Command Center for that. It's a suite of mods by Deaderpool which, among other things, enables you to block any autonomous Sim behaviors that you find annoying. Simply enable autonomy scan by clicking on your own Sim, opening the MC Command Center dialogue, and entering the MC Tuner menu. Then click on an instrument, click "Autonomy Scan", and click on anything in the list that appears which corresponds to unwanted behavior. Repeat on every other instrument type until no more instrument interactions happen autonomously. It'll also add that interaction to a config file so the game remembers not to do whatever you disabled.
