I'm taking up this CC again after taking a few months worth of a break, so forgive me if my terminology is a little askew! My mesh is completely off-kilter for whatever reason that I can't figure out. It also moves as though it's connected to the rig of somewhere within the body and not the head.
I have nooooo idea how rigs work if someone could help me investigate this and point out the problem. I'm sure it's right under my nose, but I am not adept enough with Blender or S4S to know where to start!

Hi. The mesh isnt rigged fully, so it is floating. Before joining meshes, you must rename uv maps, so that they match and merge. Right now you have 3 of them instead of two. - select uv_0, in uv editor enable sync, select the strand that you're seeing, in 3d view press P, choose selection to separate it; - with the main body of hair still selected, delete uv_0 and uv_1, rename UVmap to uv_0; - select the separated piece, rename delete UVmap; - join these pieces again; - clone a similar item, export the blend, append it in the scene, delete hat chops, rename the base shape to Reference; - transfer all data from it to your hair
