- What's this Hair Color Override category I'm seeing in S4S?
- Per my linked post, I've done a hair color overlay and it works for solid hair but not for hair with transparent bits. The colors bleed. Is there any way around that?
- Is there any way to change the color of a hairstyle on a outfit independently from other outfits that we know of?
I'm gonna have to explain my new method for making my wigs before I ask any questions related to that but it's 4:42 AM here so <blows raspberry>, that'll be in a followup reply.
2 HOURS LATER:
Since I'm still awake I went ahead and #1 did some more testing using the Hair Color Override and #2 mucked about with the overlay mod I made. The result was I still have no idea what Hair Color Override does or if it even works, and no modifications I made to the overlay prevented the color bleed with transparent hairstyles. My Quacking provided no answers for #3, just years of simmers asking the same question.
I also just made my first new-method wig. The Standalone package is 10 KB! Hot dayum! There are no embedded Diffuse or Shared textures and no embedded meshes. The only thing in the mod other than the 24 CAS Part swatches is a Region Map. Now, you're gonna ask how the heck I got a functioning Region Map in there without embedding anything. Well class, you've gotta wait for the tutorial, which comes after I create more wigs because I've been doing my testing/troubleshooting only on ShortWedge. I need to verify this works with other hairstyles.

I'm all for it, especially arm hair! So many people have visible arm and leg hair and thinks it adds tons of realism across the sexes. My gripe is that the super thick mat of torso fur should be saved for young adulthood. Teenagers shouldn't have full burt reynolds chest hair at the rate they end up with it in my save. I'm a hairy person, I've got nothing against it. However, I despise EAxis' infected chicken scratches and want them nowhere in my game ever, hence the reason I created this. I intend to do an override using Luumia's body hair at some point but I'm busy with other things, so it's on the back burner for the moment. |

Well poo! xD 1. It's errwherr in S4S. In the CAS list under the Part Type filter between Toenail and Bite (above the Body Hair entries). In Studio it's alphabetically after Hair in the Outfit Type and in Workshop it's alphabetically after Hair in Additional Texture Space.
2. I've got color bleed on SP11AssymColor (Fitness) and I assume it occurs with SP11Assym as well. It's the shaved part of the hair on the left side. If you haven't got SP11 Fitness, I'll happily check similar hair. The overlays use the exported EAxis textures. It's nothing custom and not modified in any way. ShortWedge is almost perfect because it's a solid hair, there's only slight bleed at the back where the hair cuts off on the neck, just on the edge. Here's a newly minted EF01SunscreenNose color overlay for SP11AssymColor. It has the SP11AssymColor textures embedded and is flagged for SP11. No attributes other than Sort Layer (7500 to 17500) have been modified. Additional Texture Space is still Facepaint but I've tried it on Hair and HairColorOverride and it made no difference. I've mucked around too much with the old overlay mod to share it.
Also, I mentioned in my linked post in the OP that I've made an Eyebrow overlay. I had the same color bleed issue but I solved that with an Eyebrow ExcludeFlag, so when used, it hides the "real" eyebrow and applies to overlay to the face. Perfection! Unfortunately there's no ExcludeFlag for Hair Color. xD
3. I figured. If a solution was discovered, I'd have found it by now. 4. Concerning my wigs, if you've got the time to compare the "imperfect clone" I made with hat bases and the "perfect clone" I made by modifying the actual hair package into a hat I'd be appreciative. I don't understand the cause of the imperfections and I wonder if other simmers who did this in the past just didn't notice it and if there's a solution or if ♪ that's just the way it is. I'll have to recreate an imperfect clone. In a fit of glee after figuring out my 10 KB perfect ShortWedge recategorized-hair-to-hat clone, I deleted all the imperfect hat-appended-hair clones based on Leia, Aayla, Bowler and SunHat. Fun fact, Leia and Aayla have different imperfections to Bowler and SunHat. It's all the same mesh, the same textures. I even tried them using my new embedded method while it was still in it's infancy and the same imperfections - little bits of texture not identical to the hair, weird seams that exist in the original mesh that DO NOT show on the in-game hair (or my perfect clone) but show on all hat-appended-hair clones, and odd shadows. None of it stands out so much that you'd notice if you weren't zoomed in in CAS and comparing it to the actual hair. |

For example, if you were to put a red image with 50% opacity over a blue one, youd get purple not red, no matter what

There's "Lip Ring Right" and "Lip Ring Left" empty categories as well but those work under Piercings in-game! I've been using them for my Female Facial Hair unlocks and my Eyebrow overlays because I dislike using the Makeup category for non-makeup things. EAxis hasn't used them at all yet but they're enabled!
2. Yeah, that's what I figured. Nothing to be done about this one, so wigs it is!

Alright, I'll recreate the imperfect clones and share them alongside my 10 KB perfect clone (please don't let it be that I was just supposed to remove the HairHatC entry or some silly thing like that that I didn't bother to try). In this case I was feeling lazy to do more copypasting so I instead used the Game File Cruiser Browse Game Content [Apr 12, 2024 edit for correction] to export the EAxis Region Map then imported it to my 10 KB perfect clone and modified it haphazardly by removing everything except HairHatA and modifying the Layer to 10003 and I have no idea what any of that actually does but it works! xD

I modified the ExcludeFlags to remove hair. DisplayIndex is custom, they will be in order of package name in CAS under Hats (no subcategory) with 10 KB first, Leia second and SunHat third. SortLayer on 10 KB is default 12000 and custom 17500 for Leia and SunHat.
Textures, shadows, the odd mesh sharp edge at the top and, specific to SunHat only, lines appear all around the hair. It's the same mesh and the same textures embedded in both Leia and SunHat.
28 MINUTES LATER: Perfection isn't perfection! Oh woe is me! I've done something I'm not supposed to and I think it's the cloned and modified Region Map. I was heading into Live to check an object and I noticed that default ShortWedge hair chops aren't displaying under hats anymore, the mesh and textures are just gone but the shadows are there. I have no mods overriding default ShortWedge and I just disabled my 10 KB and the problem is gone. I'll focus on this in a few minutes. I need to be in Live.
5 HOURS LATER AFTER NAPS: Pfft! Disaster averted. I fixed my Perfection 10 KB. It's my Region Map Group. It's apparently conflicting with the EAxis Region Map because it's a direct clone. Looks like all I had to do was change the Region Map Group in each of my CAS Parts to 80000000 from the EAxis 00000000 and change the cloned Region Map Group to 80000000, et voila! No more conflicts with the EAxis hair, the hair shadows work (which is an issue when re-categorizing Hair to Hats) and EAxis Hair Chops work again!
I read through some of the Region Map-related threads listed in the Helpful Threads For Special Projects after recalling what was previously said about "creating a new Region Map and copying the bits". I still don't understand what any of this does. I mean in the sense of an actual explanation. Is there a post about that? I'll search. I don't sleep enough. None of this has helped me solve the imperfections with Leia or SunHat though so I'm still not sure what the deal is there.
Also, double pfft, Perfection 10 KB is now Perfection 11 KB. All those added bits gave me +.01 KB! What horse radish! None of this actually matters. xD
Also, I should mention that Leia and SunHat aren't a priority. I have a working wig, a perfect (until something else pops up like loading into Live and my mouse exploding or some such rubbish) perfect working wig, even without the extra I did to avoid embedding anything to reduce the file size from 4 MB to 11 KB. I would just like to understand what the deal is with the imperfections I'm noticing when converting hair to hats using a Hat base and why the imperfections are different across different Hat bases. It's so weird to me.
In the meantime, I'm gonna create another wig. I completed 28 of them from a total of 18 content packs before PERFECTION struck and before finally asking my questions, so I have 27 to re-create!
I'll do a tutorial (like I said I'd do a tutorial for re-linking outfit hair to Everyday Outfit 0 using modded Sim Presets. I'll get to it!) once I've done a few more and ensured they're not secretly doing some shenanigans in the background, since this is a new approach compared to this from LeeLeeSims that removes the need to edit any meshes or export and import any resources.
I have another question unrelated to Hair.
IIRC, I've mucked about with one of the meshes in blender and applied it to a CAS item that doesn't have the issue but the problem persisted, so it's a mesh thing that I don't yet understand?

What i meant was this: - open the package, embed everything; - switch to the warehouse, select Region map, copy all those numbers somewhere in the notepad; - go back to the main menu without saving, open again, click on Add, find Region type, add it, change numbers to match the original, edit the content

For one object to morph into another, they must have identical topology.
As you see here, each of them is a reshaped version of the same object, which is what allows them to morph into each other. Feminine and masculine frames differ not only in topology but overall shape as well, so they cannot morph into each other at all. Instead, a fem frame mesh is reshaped to somewhat match the other frame with a preset and an accessory that fills the stomach area. Why is it half-assed like this? Because this ability was added years after the release of ts4, so they decided to not remake all existing clothing in the catalog and render all cc clothing unusable.
You could manually reshape this mesh in Blender, but if you've never done this, it would be difficult.
The only other thing you could do is reshape the body in cas

I am so confused. I understand there are differences between the male and female meshes that make them incompatible and that's why we get frame warping when wearing clothing made with the opposite gender mesh and why it's more an issue with female clothing and not male clothing.

Would adding an ExcludeFlag for that not help? Actually I think I tried this already and it didn't help. Wait, are you saying they Frankenstein'd a mesh together for female sims instead of just using a proper female mesh to model the clothing? Double wait, is the cummerbund what is used to "extend" female bottom clothing to "meet" the shorter top female mesh?

But this abhorrent thing is still being used as recent as the Goth Galore Kit. The female trench coat pictured in my post is the female mesh trench coat (although, the one in the very first pic is the male mesh trench coat on a female sim).

Let me pull up two new pics of the Goth Galore Kit trench coat independently of the rant images and I'm gonna use an EAxis female sim and an EAxis male sim to demonstrate because all my pictures are of my Male/Feminine Frame sim and their identical Female/Feminine Frame sim counterpart and it can get confusing.

In my effort to ensure we were talking about the same thing, I think I "get it". The tummy bloat actually exists on the male mesh but it is far less noticeable! It's the same model/mesh?!
I need to learn Blender to fix this travesty. Fantastic! xD
Here are the new pics I took that made me realize the tummy bloat is actually present on both trench coat CAS items. Same GDrive link as before. Ignore the modded flag, they are the result of my PartFlag fixes.

As for the Region Map bit...
I understand. Although, what I did instead was to Batch Export the Region Map from the EAxis hair using Browse Game Content then Batch Import it into my recategorized-hair-to-hat clone, then remove all Entries except HairHatA, then change all Region Map Group bits from 00000000 to 80000000 to avoid it somehow conflicting with the actual EAxis hair and screwing with hair chops.
In a roundabout way, we get to the same result... now that I think about it, do we actually? This is just what I figured out on my own before I inquired.
Okay fine! The next hairstyle I wig later, I will do it your way by embedding, copying the bits, reopening the the package and creating and populating a custom Region Map. Mine "works" but you know more about this and your instructions might avoid a future issue like what I ran into with hair chops! xD

woop, my apologies, didnt notice swatches have different shirts and assumed they were different items Well, i dont see anything strange about how the mesh is made and it looks pretty straight on the closest to the default avatar preset, so i guess this is just a matter of how this coat looks when waist is widened
say, when you make hips wider on a swimsuit, it looks as intended because the body is already hourglass-shaped. When you do that on a hot dog costume, it looks weird because it is meant to be straight. Same logic with this coat and a waist morph
If you were to hide it, you would be left with a hole. But this has nothing to do with this specific coat now Yes, but not in this and some other cases ( unisex looks, swimsuits, underwear, skirts) But this abhorrent thing is still being usedThey could not fundamentally remake the whole catalog of clothing, so they found a way around it that works for all meshes. Cant have sims have dramatically different body proportions in different outfits ( but again, this is not what this issue is about ) |

My frustration at this is that other Clothing Top or Clothing Full items in the game DO NOT have the same tummy bloat when the waist isn't an hourglass, meaning this mesh is unnecessary, yet they continue to use it on select clothing. The item images attached to the rant isn't all of them, there are more. I just picked out a few. I equipped the bra item to hide the male nude top warping that occurs with my sim because they're Male/Feminine Frame. I didn't want to take the pic using the top body mod that makes it look proper, and I was feeling lazy to exit the game and remove the mod.
And here's the thing, changing the size of my waist on any of the other pictured female mesh outfits changes the size of the... well, the waist, but properly without the tummy bloat warping! On the tummy bloat outfits I can reduce the size of my waist, sure, and it fixes the problem, but also if I increase the size of my waist, it makes it worse, obviously. Even the Base Game bunny onesie that they screwed up the Restrict PartFlags for (this PartFlag nonsense is EXTENSIVE, I swear <rages>) does not use this tummy bloat mesh. Did I mention how much I hates it? xD "and a waist morph"Is that a Blender thing? Is that THE Blender thing I need to fix to be rid of this? xD

People usually refer to is as "slider", like "waist slider", but the sims 4 does not use sliders for morphing ( other than body weight and muscle mass ) , so "morph" seems more suitable
In blender you cannot check how a mesh morphs, so you'd have to edit this data blindly and then check it in-game or in s4 morphmaker ( which, by the way, Andrew updated )
You could try reporting this issue to ea while giving them exact examples, it would be easier for them to change this data since they use very different program(s)

I intended to after more of my PartFlag fixes but they're releasing more paid content (of course) and this abhorrent mesh is likely coming again. Best time is now, even though I don't believe anything will change. I'd rather learn Blender than ♪ hold out for a hero.
I have a followup for the Region Map stuff but I need to verify my findings first. I just woke up, I'm totes going to be civil on AHQ!
