I will attach a video showing what happens but when I try to merge the mesh onto the rest of the hair it does this weird half see through thing. I have tried making the strand thinner so it doesn't clip through the rest of the mesh but it doesn't seem to work.

Hi. When you flip something, normals are flipped as well. You need to flip them back manually - select the strand, switch to edit mode, select everything with A, Mesh - Normals - Flip. It will become see-through; - in this order: in object mode select the strand, then Ctrl-select the main shape, join with Ctrl J. The strand will become opaque again

It worked! thank you, this is my first time trying to cc in blender so I have encountered lots of problems on the way but its a good learning experience
