I feel a little silly for not realizing this, but in case anyone else is getting the error "No meshes found to import. Make sure you set the "Cut Number" in the S4Studio Mesh Tools panel for each mesh you are importing." and your mesh does in fact have a cut number, make sure the mesh is not in a collection!
I could have sworn it used to work to save the blender file when the mesh was in a collection, but I narrowed down the problem to that. Hopefully this saves someone else some grief.
(Though this solved my problem, please let me know if I've completely misunderstood the issue. Sometimes solutions are just coincidences, though this one seems consistent.)

I'm running into this error all of a sudden the past few days, collections don't seem to be the issue and the only "fix" I've found is appending my meshes to a newly exported blend file. I've tried reinstalling s4s and reinitiating the add-on and double checking the blender path, and this is happening to files I've previously imported with success.

Go to s4s settings and check what version of blender the path leads to. You need to work in this version from start to finish.
If you're already doing it, share the blend file please
