Hello again!! I'm making my very first shoes and I really like how they turned out... but the polycount is way too high. Merging by distance helped a little, and the decimate modifier seems a bit destructive (I can only get it down to 19k before the textures start warping), so what's the best way of going about this? I also have another version of this where I deleted a decent amount of edge loops but it was still around 15k, and I want to avoid doing it too much. I was wondering how creators keep their shoes under 10k polys but still have them looking high quality and detailed. I still have so much to learn lol. TIA

Hi. One needs to model with the polycount in mind instead of reducing it in the end. For example, when you’re making shoelaces with curves, adjust their resolution right away. When you model with Subsurf, create just the barest minimum of vertices yourself to get the right shape and keep the edge flow good, avoiding triangles. If you need to harden edges, use Crease instead of adding more edge loops. You can delete edges in places where they aren’t valuable (flat surfaces, partially obscured areas) 15k is more than it should be but won’t create problems, so you can think of it as a lesson
