Having trouble switching categories for an accessory

I'm trying to switch a category for a waist chain, but it's not going great. There's this chain and bracelet that I want together on a sim but they are both in the right wrist category so I tried to switch the category of the waist chain to be in the left index finger category using a different accessory in the same category for the value number since i did something similar but with face paint eyes a year or two ago. I opened my game, put on the bracelet from the wrist category first and then the chain from the index finger category, but the bracelet just disappeared. Now I'm testing it out again and it's only the bracelet showing but when I switch to some swatches, its the chain that's appearing and the bracelet nowhere to be found. I'm doing something wrong but I can't figure out what it is so I need some help. (Sorry if this is long)
