Is there an updated pose making tutorial?

I updated my S4S and have blender 3.3 installed, and now I cannot lock poses. There is no LocRot any longer, and if I do Lock location and rotation or any of the other options, nothing works. The pose resets when I append it. Are there truly no tutorials that aren't from the 2.7 era? Even youtube is coming up empty, and I've exhausted my searches on this site. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
