Hello, I'm pretty new to S4S but I can tell you what I know about dds since they are used to make sims 3 creations as well The thing is you need a image editor, Photoshop or Gimp. After that you'll need something called dds plugins, there are two I believe, one for each image editors I already named. So HERE you have the Photoshop ones, I use them myself. You just need to download the one compatible with your Windows (32 or 64 bits). Then is pretty easy from there since it's an executable and you just follow the steps. And HERE you have the Gimp ones, which I haven't really used so I could't tell you how to install them, but there's a lot of info in their web. After all these you'll be able to open the dds images with your editor and work with them as they were an ordinary image, and with this I mean you can edit, apply layers, color it and everything you usually do. You have to work in the dds file exported from S4S to create the mask I think, it should be easier. Then you just save it and choose the DDS format. Immediatly something like this will pop up: You just need to go to options in the arrow pointing down and select Interpolated Alpha most of the case, but I think it depends on the item you're making. Hope this helps, and for sure maybe someone else could give you a better information. Good Luck!

You don't need to convert to .dds if you don't want to bother with a .dds plugin for your 2D editor. Studio is able to import .png and all 2D editors I know of are able to save .png without a plugin. .dds is no longer necessary for Sims 4 modding.

Thank you for letting me know.
