Let me preface this by saying I'm very new to modding, but have had some successes. I'm wanting to create new defaults with meshes, namely hands and feet. There are examples and packages out there with default replacements for feet and nude skins, but they don't fit my purposes, and I don't want to reengineer someone else's work. Every resource I've come across so far simply suggests to edit someone's default replacement for whatever. I know it's possible since others are doing it, but notice a distinct lack of info on how to accomplish this from scratch. Is this crazy hard? Are there any tutorials or info on getting started? Saw sims4studio.com/thread/3308/make-default-replacement-infant-clothing that covers skinning, but is the process the same for things with meshes? Will there be a problem getting hands and feet to display with everything including showering and when wearing socks or bracelets, etc? Sorry to be a noob.

Hi hoogz, in Sims 4 there is no single Sim model that garments are put on top of. Instead hands, arms, and other exposed areas are part of each garment mesh. For this reason there is no way to make a single default hand mesh...you would need to create your hand mesh, clone every single garment you wanted it to show with as a default override, and then replace the existing hand with your new one.
There is a bare feet mesh and to make a default override of that you would select Override under the CAS button and then click the CAS button. Once the thumbnail list comes up select the bare feet mesh you want to work with and click Next. Any mesh you replace the original with will be a default override that replaces the bare feet mesh in the game and will function just like the EA bare feet function. There are 3 bare feet meshes...one for adult males, one for adult females, and one for kids.
