Hi everyone, I'm very new to Sims modding and I tried creating a new rug using Sims 4 Studio. It is basicly a 1 tile version of Never Too Many Circles Rug. I managed to create the new package and insert all the correct textures in different colors. However I cannot seem to replace the catalog thumbnails, no matter how hard I try. I've read the tutorial, tried everything from clicking all thumbnails in game, clearing cache in S4S to completely redoing the package. Nothing works. The game still shows me the default thumbnail from the original rug (4 circles instead of 1). Also when you place my rug outside it still shows the default shadows for 4 circles. I have no idea how to fix that. Any help would be greatly appreciated. ExampleNot Enough Circles Rug.package

The reason it's still showing the 4 circles in the game is because you need to replace your spec and bump maps in the S4S. It's explained here, and you can also use the link on that page to download the blank ones that you'll need to put into your new package file. As far as the thumbnails go, I'm not really sure what's happened with them. How did you do the original file? Did you select "standalone recolor" or did you select "Create 3D mesh"? I just tested in my game, and they are still showing up as the original 4 dots image- the only thing I can think of is that you may have done them as a recolor instead of a new mesh. Anytime you are changing the mesh of something, you need to select "Create 3D Mesh." If that's not the solution, I'm not too sure...I could play around with it a bit myself, if you want, but I'll let you reply first. EDIT: in a good mood, so I fixed the spec and bumps for you, haha. It really only takes 1 second to do, tbh : www.mediafire.com/?ndci3wkwvome29rBut you'll need to learn how to do it yourself for the future, so definitely check out the above link

Hi carbonn, as brittpinkiesims has said, the old bump is showing up on your rug outdoors because you haven't exchanged the old one for a blank one or one that matches your new mesh. The reason it doesn't show up indoors is that EA's indoor lighting is broken for the rug shader and doesn't allow the bump to show if the rug shader is applied to the mesh. They plan to fix this in an upcoming patch though so everyone should be aware that rugs that did not have the bump fixed in the past are all the sudden going to begin showing that bump in the future.
I looked at your .package, and I am getting the same problem with it...until I clear out your thumbnail images and allow the game to generate a new thumb it persists in showing the original thumbnails. Once I cleared your custom thumbnails out, the game generated a new catalog thumbnail for each swatch that was a correct catalog thumbnail. I am unable to explain this.
What I can tell you is that I made a brand new clone of the rug, imported your textures and custom thumbnails into the .package, and put that into the game. The game showed me your new thumbnails instead of the originals. So the problem lies in whatever you did when you were making this .package...somehow you've ended up with a .package that, for whatever reason, will not allow your custom thumbnails to show up until they are first deleted and a game generated thumbnail made. The way to fix this is to reclone the rug, import your textures into it and then import your custom thumbnail images. Those images should be 116 x 116 pixel .pngs. You should not need to clear the cache prior to putting this new rug into the game, but it never hurts to do so just to be sure you get your new thumbnail showing up.
When the next version of Studio (Jackpot 2.7.0.3) comes out, this issue will be moot. That version has added the automatic addition of the resource EA is using to get overhead shots of rugs for the thumbnail so people that want an overhead shot that looks like EA's newer rug thumbs won't need to make custom thumbs to get that appearance anymore.

Thx for all the help. I used the package that brittpinkiesims linked and it looks good in-game. But since the catalog thumbnails are still causing issues (and since I wanna learn to replace the spec and bump maps myself) I recreated the package. It worked fine. Thanks for the link! However, I still cannot get the thumbnails to work. I recreated the whole project as 3D mesh instead of a recoloring, but the result was exactly the same. The game insists on using the default thumbnails. Also when I go through all swatches and afterwards open my localthumbcache.package it doesn't seem to contain any of the thumbnails. There are just a few sims thumbs and some random stuff. After I use the clear cache function in S4S, it does show as empty. But after running the game again (and looking at all the 'default' thumbnails again instead of my own custom thumbnails) it still only contains those sim thumbs and the random stuff, no circle rugs. Aren't they supposed to be in there? The way those thumbnails work in Sims4 is really giving me a headache. I just want to see the difference in the catalog between my single circle rug and the default 4 circles rug.

You do not need to use create 3D mesh in order to have properly working thumbnails. Recolor.packages are perfectly capable of having custom thumbnails.
The game does not include custom thumbnails in the thumbnail cache.
Please do the following--exactly--as I have the steps listed. When exporting and importing use .png NOT .dds.
1. Open the .package that you uploaded here in this thread. 2. Export all the textures from it. 3. Export all the custom thumbnails from it. 4. Clone the circles rug as a recolor. 5. Click the Textures tab. 6. Use the Import button to import the first rug diffuse image that you exported from the .package you uploaded here. 7. Click the next swatch in the swatch box to move to the second swatch in the .package. 8. Import the second rug diffuse image from the .package you uploaded here. 9. Repeat steps 7 and 8 for all the other swatches. 10. Return to the first swatch. 11. Import the custom thumbnail image that you exported from the .package you uploaded here. 12. Click to the next swatch. 13. Import the second custom thumbnail image that you exported from the .package you uploaded here. 14. Repeat steps 12 and 13 for the other swatches. Save the .package. 15. Use Studio's clear cache feature (in the Tools menu). 16. Test your item in the game.
These are the exact steps that I took using the diffuse images/custom thumb images from the original .package you posted here and a fresh recolor clone of the circles rug. It showed up in the game just fine and it had your custom thumbnails on it.
Again, there is something going wrong in the process you're using to create this rug. I can't tell from a cursory look at the .package what that something is...all I can tell you is that using a fresh clone and importing the textures/thumb images from your old .package into that new .package worked for me.
