I have been working on this hair for... a long time

As you can see, it has that weird shadow behind the ear, but goes away if you put on certain accessories? (but not all)
I have split the edges/vertices to hell in every combination I can think of. Very confused

It is perfectly fine for the first few times I put it on a sim. Then it like reminds itself that it isn't supposed to work and the shadow comes back
