hi! i'm not really sure what the problem here is or what you're referring to...
Do you want those two vertices to be together? - Left click on where you want them to be to position the circular cursor. - select both vertices by right clicking on them. - Press shift + s and select "selected to cursor".
If this isn't what you asked please be more specific. Also, only one of the pictures load for me, i recommend using imgur.com better.

They locked and linked together so when I press one the other one lights up as well (and moves with it but one is on the cut line and the other is near the top of the line above) and the shading is different to the rest of the mesh areas. It is like the mesh on fly wire screen when vertices in the same area are shaded yellow/orange when selected with it. What i think I have done is merge 2 vertices from different lines on to where I was merging the cut vertices but in 2 different places on the mesh. What i are asking is does that mean that there is a hole in the mesh? It is the shading I would like to know what it means. Thanks.

I can't see you photos today (although I managed to yesterday??) and I havent meshed clothing, but as far as I know if there is a face, then there shouldn't be a hole in the texture. Although you want to be sure that the vertexes are indeed merged, cause the smallest space will show up as a hole.
Not completely sure on your question either, but if there isn't a face press "f" in edit mode and that should put it on there.
Sorry if this answer is totally off the mark...
