hi! i have a full plate mesh (i still have to make the single version) .. my question is.. is there any tutorial around (i've only seen one from necrodog for microwave food) that explains the process of setting it up? i don't need the food to be craftable. My idea is to have it buyable from the catalogue, placed, and plates being taken from it.
i've tried to import a my mesh to a cloned full plate... but it looses all functionality in game.
Thanks for reading!

Aside from necrodog's tutorial and the preludes to custom food in the Sims 4 Chat section, the Foodgroup at mts has some information in their discussion thread. They all focus on recipes rather than on the actual food though - if there is another food tutorial I wouldn't know of it but would be very curious about it as well. treelifecreations at tumblr - who made all the dishes buyable from catalogue - mentioned, that they for some reason couldn't make the group meals buyable from catalogue. I am not sure what is causing problems, but I could imagine that your plate does not work for the same reason. However, when making my tea-tray, I thought that it should be possible to simply work around the issue by creating a second, normal object which upon activation generates the group meals, as this is basically how the buffet-table and the drink-tray work. I haven't tested this idea yet though, because I became distracted by colouring things - if you like I can look into it in the evening and then tell you if it works.

thank you for replying guys! anska yes, i read that too. And this information post at mts. What i did was clone the "foodPlateEatBdayCakeMultiUANHamburger" from debug. Imported my plain mesh with the same cut numbers, enabled it to appear on the regular catalog.. and that's it. maybe it isn't working before everything is handled by geostates and importing my mesh breaks it? i see in mts that they use tsrw. So maybe i can give it a try in there if i can't find any more info here :/ But again.. i don't really need it to be craft-able on any oven or that (it wouldn't make sense either because the food has decorations on it lol).. so that removes the need to fiddle with the process of making the actual item. j i checked the girl's downloads and i believe she modifies base game textures and keeps the same base game meshes not braking any geostates. I also saw her comment on the post i link above and i believe she does that.

The geostates aren't bothered by too much, from my experience. If your mesh doesn't have the ones required, the object simply won't change its appearance properly, but it won't break - at least in my still rather limited experience. Did you by any chance get an option to clean your newly cloned plate up? Because if you didn't alter the tuning at all, the default state of your object - as of about every food I have looked at (single plates, large plates, drinks, ... ) - should be the empty one. Also from what I gathered, the object tunings of the serving plates don't hold too much information by themselves. The single plates hold all the really important informations (such as the calories of the food ... ) and the serving plates and the single plates are linked together by the recipes. So, at least the way I see it atm, you might need a recipe file anyway - however, if you don't want the objects to be actually cookable on a stove, a very basic one should do. You would also need a recipe if you wanted to sell your food in stores or restaurants. PS: OhMySims is also making lovely recipes - and she is using her own meshes too. So, while I don't mind poking through files and searching for solutions, since this particular topic interests myself a lot too, she might be the more competent person to ask.

Yea! i got the "empty" option. i thought i messed up something haha. Then i'm not sure which one is the correct tuning to place there that holds the full dish. And even if i were to put the correct tuning... then the original single piece of food would come out from that.. I saw ohmysims adding custom meshes for food.. but i personally didn't want to bother her with it.. so i asked here in hopes that someone else would be willing to share the knowledge XD btw- i'm not planing on selling things or store or at restaurants i'm trying to make it as simple as i can with the least amount of code editing.

I'll write it up for you once ... I guess that is the good news, bad news moment. The good news is, that I managed to create a buyable object which upon using it, creates a large, functional serving of food. What is even better, because of phyre s help, I can even set it up to create excellent food - so even foodie sims should be delighted about your custom food in the end and not wrinkle their noses in disgust. The bad news however is, that I somehow messed up my own test-recipe. Instead of generating a new recipe, I somehow managed to replace the apple pie. *whistles* So before I can give you any help on setting up the food objects, I'll have to figure out, what I did wrong.

awww haha that's an improvement! maybe it's the tuning? treelifecreations enabled all the dishes.. I'm not sure if you can compare those... but since it's all base game info I doubt anything was edited apart from making it visible.. I think. I'm rambling, I'm sorry.it's all dark territory for me xd

On a quick note: I got everything working and set up the necessary tuning files in a way, that you or others can use them to rather easily to make custom food without too much trouble. I am currently writing up a short tutorial and probably will be done with it either later tonight or sometime tomorrow.

You are very welcome. If you run into any trouble or wish to modify anything (for example if you need your food to be handheld like cookies) feel free to ask.
