I've been searching information on how to add weight paint to a necklace but haven't really found anything about it yet. What I would like to know is how does one know what colour to add to what part of the necklace. I've been looking at base game necklaces to see how weight paint is done on different items but I still don't know why they add certain colours to certain spots on a piece of jewelry. I made a new mesh for a necklace and although it shows in game just fine and everything I would like for it to move with the sliders (if that is possible). I noticed that if a flat chested sim wears it it's fine, but if I increase the size of chest or weight of the sim the necklace just becomes buried in the sims chest and you can't see it anymore. I read the weight transfer tutorial but I am not sure if I can use that for my necklace as it obviously has a different shape than EA's necklaces and length as well. How do I figure out what colours to use for the weight painting of my necklace?

hi hon! Here you have a tutorial for Weight transfer. Thank you my dear for your reply, -I did read that tutorial but wanted to know if I could use it with any kind of accessory and assign the weights accurately so my mesh doesn't explode in game. I tried the weight transfer tut before but my mesh exploded so I wanted to make sure that it was just as easy as transferring it from any jewelry item to another without issue

the procedure and steps are always the same for transferring the weight. It's not mandatory to use a "similar" object in my opinion. I usually just use a nude top subdivided for my necklaces or any type of accessory that requires it. You can read slyd's tutorial for that here.
